So on the website it says start of term is 29th September, but is that when lectures start, and freshers is the week before? Or is that when freshers week starts?

This academic year (i.e. October 2013) the first day of term was the first day of freshers. You have a week of activities within your college and some departmental introductions including signing in officially (to make sure you get your student finance) and then proper lectures begin in week 2. I would imagine it's the same for the upcoming year.
