I've never really understood why Newcastle is so popular. Unless your idea of a good night out involves getting off with a Geordie Shore reject and having someone throw up on you, there are far better cities.

There's a lot more than that. Far more.

Hence the award.

Apparently all cities are now ranked by nightlife alone.

It's important as that's how a lot of people our age socialise and who wants to live in an area with **** nightlife? I wanna live somewhere with a diverse nightlife (not just cheesy mainstream meatmarket bars) with gigs and concerts going on. I don't wanna live in some boring town where everyone knows everyone and goes out 'Satdee neet'.

Manchester has the best nightlife in the north IMO. No contest. Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle are both playing catch-up. Leeds is a bit too cliquey, small and getting around is a nightmare. Sheffield has too many studenty bars (indie rock and all that crap) for my taste. Plus getting around at night in Manchester is easier. Plus Manchester is a bigger more diverse city. The nearest competitor to Manchester IMO is probably Glasgow.

To be fair my statement was a bit one-sided anyway. I don't drink or do the whole nightlife shebang so nightlife was never going to be a consideration for me at least. My cousin on the other hand did base his decision partly around nightlife and ended up going to Leeds. However for the stereotypical student, i can understand how nightlife does contribute.

I'm in Sheffield and i don't find there to be an overpowering 'city feeling' that i felt when i went to London last summer (which was just terrible; hot, humid and most polluted experience ever). Only downside that Sheffield has would probably be that the main student villages are a good 15-30 minutes walk away depending on which university building you are located in. I do engineering so i am in one of the furthest away (yay!). Everything in Sheffield is also on a hill, so what you go down, you must also go back up.

I think I would've chosen Bristol if I didn't go for Worcester.

Originally I went to Cheltenham as it was a lush place, but the uni wasn't what I thought it was so moved to Worcester. This place is nice and all but it's got major transport problems and I don't think the graduate prospects are great.
Newcastle.
Liverpool :3

I've visited friends at other universities and it just really didn't even compare, nowhere seemed as friendly or as socially central and convenient (and cheap) than liverpool
Sheffield it's great, it's not got the big city feel but still has everything close to hand, nightlife is good but then it depends where you go and who with!
