And the payment of specialist war studies staff, who solely teach war studies. They're probably paid about 60,000. I think they're also struggling to employ people for it, I know they're getting someone new in September, because there's bigger better departments who get all the good employees

60 000k? lol I thought academic staff were on like 30k

Not the head of a department :P a senior lecturer would get more than that too

Good because I've read on the internet that Jarret Hall is full of unfriendly foriegn students and i want more of a social buzz, but it seems the Vale is in the middle of no where.
Any car parking provison at all? i ask because i live only 30 mins away from birmingham and so occasionally might drive back if i had to park it, it wouldnt be there permanently, at tops a night maybe.

Parking provisions where? There's a few places in halls but they only usually allow people with disabilities to have them and then they have to buy a permit. There's no car parking on campus, there's a few car parks on the peripheries of campus but they are pay and display and I don't think they're open overnight

i guess it makes sense also because it keeps students more enclosed in the campus bubble and the uni does have its own station so i guess it wants to make money out of it lol

Haha, fair enough. Do you have to let any body know about someone visiting or can you just bring them?

Also- after paying for necessities (eg food) each week, how much money would you say, roughly, you have left every week?

I never let anyone know, they have no way of knowing you've got somebody staying over really so I don't think anyone ever bothers/they really care about it!

It depends how much student finance you get really and how expensive your accommodation is and if you're getting any extra help etc. I've never struggled with money because my parents are kind enough to help me out, so it just depends on personal situations. I buy food in a pair so it makes it cheaper and we spend about £15-£20 each per week on food. So if you're by yourself I'd say £20-£25 depending on how smart you are about what you buy. Then if you work out how much you'll have per week after you've paid accommodation and food from your student finance you should be able to work out how much there is left over at the end

Fab, much appreciated!
Birmingham is my first choice but I need help on deciding what accommodation I should choose. I'm thinking
1. Tennis Courts
2. Oakley Court (Duplex)
3. Oakley Court (Shared)
4. Mason
5. Ashcroft
I just want to know what is it like living in Pritchatts Park as opposed to The Vale - do people still go out to The Vale for the bar/social side etc.? What is Mason like as I've not heard good reviews about it. Any other bits of advice or opinions about accommodation would be great!Thank You

No one from Prichatts Park would go to the Vale for two reasons. 1. It's about a 30/35 minute walk away and 2. There isn't that much of a social buzz there. I did live in there a year ago, but I get the impression not much has changed, barely anyone is ever in the bar. The only time there was actually people there was freshers week, when the superbowl was on and after people's exams had finished this time of year. throughout the rest of the year there was about 5 people there every night. Prichatts is social though, it has its own social centre which I think is used more than the Vale's. The Vale really isn't as great as they make it out to be, its really really nice, but not as disproportionately nice as they like you to think it is!

Mason is nice, very new. The bedrooms are a little smaller than in the other halls but not uncomfortably small. Their showers flood apparently, and also everyone takes the mick and calls them mason w*****s because it's the most expensive
