Oh alright then *produces monster book that requires two men to life* it doesnt look much but its dense. hahah.

Yeah, i bought that book too. Very thick and the pages are very thin so must have A LOT of info in it. I got the international edition even though they didn't tell me that when i ordered it. What did you get?
Reply 23
The whatsit, Biology 7th Edition by three different authors whose names I can't remember right? Mostly white cover with red trimmings and a picture of something naturesy. Yeah I got the international version, it was the only one available back in Singapore. Anyway I got it cheaper at a local university, using my mate's student discount

For Economics you would need:
Olivier Blanchard - Macroeconomics
Varian - Intermediate Econ.
Anne Britton and Chris Waterson Financial Accounting, 4th edition 2006, Financial Times Prentice Hall.

Frank Wood and Alan Sangster Business Accounting 1, 10th edition 2005, Financial Times Prentice Hall
Accounting and Finance for Non-Specialists by Peter Atrill and Eddie McLaney [fourth edition] Prentice Hall
Jacques, I., Mathematics for Economics and Business, Addison-Wesley
Glaister, S., Mathematical Methods for Economics, Blackwell
Gujurati D.N. Essential Econometrics 2nd edition, New York McGraw Hill 1999
Essential Econometrics Gujarati

I got all this info on the website of the Dept. of Econ. Hope this helps.

 Darn! Don't tell me we're using all these in our first year! And I thought first year would be a breeze!

If you don't mind, could you please paste the Econs Dept. web address? Thanks

Well for law here is a rough guide for books you'll need:
Constitutional law, Law & State:
Public Law, Clarendon Series (forgot author's name)
Constitutional Law : Bradley & Ewing

Contract Law:
Either Anson's or Chen-Wishart, most people seem to prefer Anson's, even though for my year ALL the tutorials were based on CW, it's just a little extra work to find out what chapter/topic and read it in Anson.

Tort Law:
Lunny & Oliphant is the preferred one, but a few also use some other book I can't remember.

Property:
Property Law by Bridge, Clarendon Series
Property Law by Roger Smith - you will need both books

Criminal Law:
Criminal Law by Clarkson(not Jeremy!) & Keating

That's about all the books you'll need. Throw in 3 statute books as well and you've got yourself a complete set of law books

I think a rough estimate would be around 200 pounds for all the books including a few second hand ones.

Anything else on law that you require or want to ask you are welcome to pm me

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that's not Ronan.

For engineering we were all told to fork out 35 quid on the James maths book (for the eng maths module) and I don't know anyone who's used it more than a couple of times. If you can't get it second hand i'd suggest waiting a while to see how you cope without it, as opposed to dropping 35quids worth of potential freshers week beer money on a book you'll probably never use.

You people have book lists?!?!

Well now I feel left out! And underprepared... just what i needed!

I know your pain. With a Labcoat and Fusion thats another £25 gone. It's almost as if they dont want us to drink at all.:frown:
Reply 32
i have a labcoat already but i did draw on it a bit :p: might have to buy a new one just to look professional. i forgot to send that fusion thing off, ill do it during freshers week. you gonna join RSC?
Reply 33
You're lucky! I've spent £100 on books already and I'm not done.

One cost £42! Though it was new I couldn't find it cheaper than £30 used...
Reply 34
RSC eh? Didn't know that was an option!
If it costs more than the 12p I just found in my pocket the chances are slim.

Are there any discernible benefits to joining? i.e (something I can use as leverage to get my mum to pay)

Also with regards to labcoat. It might make you look a bit wise/experienced if it seems used, like some kind of renegade chemist who is sticking it to "the man". Jesus, I talk *******s when I'm tired.
I'm taking my dads advice, and waiting till freshers week where apparantly i can buy the books cheaply from 2nd year students who no longer need them.

He'd better be right about this, otherwise I'll be f*ked if I have no books when we start lectures.

Also I have to read loads of one of them... that'll be a job for the sunday :p:

Yeah, i'm banking on that being true as well... I have no idea what i'll do if it's not!

But I'm an optomist, it will work out - it just HAS to!!! Then again, i'm social sciences - so it's not a train smash like it would be if it was actual sciences!

oh, i noticed that, but I sort of disregarded it because it isn't set in stone what fac/open units we'll be taking... i just assumed i would cross that bridge when i came to it!

thanks, now my mind is at ease again!
