which college is best for me???

I will be studying history at York 2016. I enjoy socialising and I'm quite musical.

I would preferably like an en-suite room, not too noisy but still god for drinking and going out (good community spirit kinda stuff)

Any suggestions? Is Alcuin too quiet .

Yeah. I really don't want to go into Derwent. I seem to have a pre-conceived hatred of it already XD !!!!

Studious, musical, dry witted, classical music lover, generally clean, an idiot when drunk, highly offensive sometimes, quiet, loud, and a short attention span.

What about you?

I'm in an similar position but have applied for Chemistry. Alcuin looked pretty good - but to be fair it was the only place we saw on the interview day. So I'm still unsure too:s-smilie:

I'm a mixture of both, there'll be times where I won't say a peep and other times where words just flow out of my mouth without thought or organisation. So I'm down for either

I did try checking the facebook pages. Goodricke seemed pretty dead, and Alcuin seemed to have some social life. But I don't think facebook is the best source of information tbh XD

I think James is quite in the centre of things and is apparently quite social
I've lived in both Alcuin and Constantine so feel free to ask anything you'd like to know about those!

Hi bloovanmeer,

Is Alquin quiet? The general opinion I get from people is that it's a bit quiet, out of the way, not really part of the hubbub, not very partyish, and a little boring.

Is this true???

It's true that it's slightly out of the way - most of campus is on the other side of the road, with the library and a couple of departments on the Alcuin side. However, this doesn't mean it's quiet. I'm not huge on clubbing, but my flatmates usually go out multiple times a week, I've made good friends with people from other blocks and I hang out in the JCR quite a bit. Its position means you don't get all the through-traffic that you would in, say, Derwent or Vanbrugh, but it's not dead by any means.

I like that it's slightly isolated (and when i say slightly, i mean slightly - it takes two minutes to get to market square which is a relatively central & busy landmark), because it means that i actually have a sense of leaving campus and putting space between work and home. Also, the library is literally on your doorstep, which is a huge plus.
