How to Prove in Maths

In general if a question gave you an identity for example, 1 +cot2x=cosec2 x
How would you do it. Would you have to start of by saying LHS= ......

Yep. You can start from either side. Starting from the more complicated side usually works.

You picked a bad example here, because in this case, you'd start from the Pythagorean identity then get to that idenity using some manipulation, but usually, it's starting from one side and manipulating/simplifying/rewriting till you get to the other.
