Dentistr work experience questions

So, i finally managed to get work experience! But, i have no idea what i'll be required to do. Can anyone who have done w/e share what they did? Also, what should i take with me? I guess i should take a bag with lunch and any other important stuff?

Thanks for any help!

Hi!
These days, it's very difficult to do anything other than to observe/shadow the Dentist(s) or any other member(s) of the team. So I'm assuming that's what you will be doing too
I took a notepad and pen with me but ONLY wrote down anything when there were no patients in the room (as this might make them feel uncomfortable) or during my lunch break! Obviously, ask beforehand if you can write down anything and I'm sure the Dentist will say yes as long as you do not mention any names

Thanks! I havent been told what to wear, so will a shirt, trousers, jumper do? Also, i have been trying to look up any good websites/books that i could use to study about dentistry and stuff, but havent been much successful. Is there any chance you could recommend me relevant book/sites?

Thanks again!

I wore smart clothing but not 'too' smart

And these are al the 'bookmarks' I have utilised over these past 2 years, hope they help . They range from the NHS to news articles. I used to have some good websites for the UKCAT but unfortunately I got rid of them all

Thanks!
As a qualified dentist I get work experience requests, but end up taking very few on.
I've had far too many bored, quiet teenagers sitting there not getting anything out of the visit. If you want to get something out of it you'll need to be sensible and professional but confident and chatty.
If you want to be safe in a clinical environment you'll need to get your GP to give you a course of hepatitis B injections so you are protected in surgery. You'll need this if you do any clinical course at university anyway, and I would only accept people in for work experience of they had this done.
There's also a lot of red tape in actually getting someone in 'off the street' to sit in the surgery. You'll need to be aware anything you hear or see in the surgery will be strictly confidential, you won't be allowed to touch any used instruments or actually help the dentist do much. You may need to sign a confidentiality contract and read the cross infection control policy for a start. It's a case of sitting in the corner and quietly watching the dentist get on with their job then asking as much as possible about the job when the dentist has a spare minute, as all this will help in potential university interviews.
you shouldn't wear normal clothes in surgery so maybe ask if you need to borrow a clinical Tunic or surgery scrubs, due to cross infection control. Don't expect to be looked after but use it as a fact finding, information gathering mission.
