What's the point of pick-up artists?

I've always been curious, what exactly is the point of a pick-up artist (or day gamer, direct guy, player, cunning runt, whatever they want to call themselves really). I mean what is their purpose?

Do these people really get that much enjoyment from hooking up with strangers they met on the street, or internet forums or wherever? I can see how sleeping with people is fun, but taking time out of the middle of the day to chase girls?

To then go on and try and class it as some sort of occupation as well. It's almost as bad as a socialite.

I'm just curious what motivates people to take such a direction in life, when they could just as easily do what other guys do and chat to girls at bars, then spend their days doing something a bit more productive.

Came here thinking it was about people drawing pick up trucks, I guess it's some kind of sex addiction those people have though
I might not have their values, but I can see their angle. the point is they learn a skill and then get to sleep with lots of girls. I suppose the payment is sex, plus fun plus power or ego boost. Sprt challenge and rush of it? Does Nick the direct dating dude classufy him as a pick up artist?

Surely it's possible to get enough sex without having to resort to approaching random people on the street all day though, or is it this part that they get the kick out of and the sex is just a by product?

How are people going to get any sex if they don't approach people they fancy? It's not going to magically happen without you doing anything to make it happen, you know. If you want to get laid, you have to APPROACH people you fancy....they're not just going to magically approach you.

Well, I have studied this matter in depth for some time, and with the years of research I have done on the subject I can conclude with a great degree of certainty that, the role of a pickup artist, is infact, to pickup women.

Well yes, but short of being a porn-star of prostitute, how can you consider sleeping with people an occupation?

Well yes, but why try and turn what anyone normally does in their spare time in bars into an occupation? Like I say, it's similar to socialites, another "occupation" I've never quite got the point of.

Also note I specified all day on the street. I'm not suggesting that people should never approach anyone else.

Sometimes, the chase is more fun than the reward itself. Think of it as a predator-prey relationship

I've never been a pick up artist but I think I'd like to try and answer this anyway.

The type of man who makes it his 'occupation' isn't primarily motivated by the sex.

He is motivated by the desire to make up for his inward feelings of inferiority.

Different men make up for their feeling of inferiority in different ways of course.

I suppose I myself,if I'm honest, feel inferior (but not in the way you may think,I let down a couple of people very close to me in a bad,bad way which I can never atone for ) and I bet HUGE amounts of money on football every year when I don't need to for example.

Other men fight a lot, others drink and others find yet other ways.

But some men pick up women.

They do it because they have a psychological need to originally.

But then it gets addictive.

To be fair, there are far worse things to be addicted to.

Just my tuppence worth.Probably ******** though.

The most successful PUA's don't just pick up girls themselves, they run workshops teaching others how to do it and writing books. That's how they make their money. There are some 'homeless' pick up artists who literally just wander around the country making new girlfriends in each city, but for most amateurs it's just a hobby (they probably have a job as a nightclub promoter or something where they have a lot of free time during the day).

It is a numbers game.

But I think a lot of pick up artists do it to prove that they can, their egos are dependent on whether other people like them.
Sex, increase confidence in talking to strangers, enjoy the chase, finding a GF, something to do when bored. Just like any hobby, people have a varieties a reason why they partake in it.

It is to some people. I'm much more of a quality over quantity type myself, but people can do what they want.
