Well you made the thread interesting el chapo.
@ElChapo do you lie in normal life as well? Have you always lied? Just curious.
Some of the stuff i agree with.

you can lie about your societies and being an open day steward and they'll never check (guarantee it) - just thought i'd mention that. same applies to volunteer work. they'll call your uni just to make sure you didn't lie about getting a 2:1.

i always find it hilarious when people try so hard to do all of this sh*t to pimp up their CVs then i come along, lie about it, and take their job. i'm collecting jobs like el chapo collected pounds of cocaine atm.

This guy is wavy lol..
el chapo is 100% correct you can completely lie about societies and employers will be none the wiser, it's also incredibly easy to blag experiences in interviews.

What I don't understand is why you'd go to university and not join societies, it would be bloody boring if it were just an extension of a-levels. If you don't enjoy finance enough to join the relevant societies, what makes you think you'll enjoy it as a career?

LOOL yeh you can obviously lie but I dont think making up a lie about how you attended the knitting and baking society in university is gonna land you a FO job, theres a reason why they dont check up on that.

Plus you might as well actually attend the society so you have some more **** to talk about.

lol what a stupid comment, shouldn't be the only reason to pursue a career in finance.

There are hundreds of other jobs that pay way more

I think you misunderstood me

I've joined the relevant societies such as investment banking, actuarial, and finance societies but I haven't been able to get any committee positions or anything regarded as "work"

I dont think that just being a member of a society and going to their events counts as EC?

Of course it does, not EVERYONE is going to be able to get committee positions.

i go to university to meet cool people, loose girls and get a piece of paper at the end with a degree classification on it. since when has joining a society been the only way to socialise rofl. these guys are all dorks; there are a few students on campus atm who haven't slept for 2 days (ongoing) because they're not allowing themselves to leave their hub on campus until they read all of shakespeares plays (its a shakespeare society thing).

i have masters exams round the corner - you think i got time for that? or to sit in computer science or games society events to listen to your stereotypical computer nerds talk about heartstone or zelda. do i even need to bring up humans vs zombies? bunch of virgins running around campus with their wizard capes and toy guns acting like 10 year old children.

i go to real social events not this forced sh*t lol.

well i could work as a programmer in a 9-5 or 9-6 slavery job and earn £28K if i wanted to.

but why would i do that when i can work in finance doing the same thing, with better training and earning a solid el chapo salary (plus much better bonuses)? i did a 4 month internship at UBS 2 years ago, made a **** load of cash and enjoyed it. doesn't mean i want to spend my free time in boring events run by societies where you just sit and chat about finance with other students. i honestly have better things to do.

btw just to be clear - it's not a finance role, it's a tech role within a financial institution.

work isn't supposed to be fun; what is fun tho is slipping your card in the ATM and seeing your balance exceed the width of the screen.

finance is all about making money - why is it absurd that someone getting into finance is also all about making money?

loool you work in the tech division, acting like the CEO of Microsoft..you dont enjoy what you do for what? a 40k salary?

honestly, i'd rather be smoking some of the finest high grade on a jamaican beach with some of the finest hunnies instead of sitting on a desk 10 hours a day. that is my idea of enjoying life and being on a ridiculous salary will allow me to do that. it is simply a means to an end. when im earning 100-120K in 10 years time i would be able to buy out your house and turn it into a dump if i wanted to.

that does't mean i don't like my job. i just don't pretend i do it for fun when the primary reason anyone works is to pay the bills. i'm able to do this and live a luxorious el chapo lifestyle on top of it while you're still sitting your freshers exams in that absolute sh*thole they call Nottingham lol.

your yearly earnings: £0
my yearly earnings: £42000

i earn infinitely more money than you do, let that sink in.

stay bad, stay broke, stay breezy brah.

It's not the only reason, but it is the dominant reason most people pursue a career in (high) finance. And I bet you there are less than a handful of jobs that a graduate with an unrelated degree subject can apply to and make more money.
this daniel kid is deluded if he thinks people apply to IBs because they're fun rofl. this guy has like 50 circles around each eye man (full screen the video and you can see each circle):

you will need at least 10 ATM screens to display his balance. he has been in the game for too long tho, i would have quit after the 7th circle and got the weed/coffee shops in amsterdam running.

I don't think anyone's really saying IB is fun, more that the exit opps / later career opportunities are and that the interest in finance is needed to fuel your motivation to get up in the early hours of the morning for the 16 hours you have to be at work for.

yeah, it's very plausible to assume that these guys are working 16 hour days because they love the world of finance that much. nothing to do with the fact that they're on bonuses 3x bigger than their 6 figure salary. i don't care who you are - if you're earning so much that you have to work 16 hour days you will become obsessed with whatever industry you're working in even if you had 0 interest prior to the fact.

the guy probably gets paid £1 mil for each ring around his eye, who we kidding.

I never said the salary has nothing to do with it, it certainly does. However anyone that has actually worked in that environment will tell you you will be miserable if you only do it for the money, especially when your per hour wage after tax is nothing special.

i think you're a little deluded because they're all miserable (especially the guy with 50 circles, look at him).

btw i worked 4 months at UBS purely for the money and i was not miserable in any way (i actually enjoyed it) so this 'you have to love finance or you won't survive' mentality is retarded. 50 eyes guy became a trader because he was obsessed with making money (his own words).

call me anton kreill junior from now on, dudes a boss.

not gonna sit here and argue over something so obvious. stay in denial. i worked 4 months at UBS purely for the money and i was not miserable in any way so gtfo with this 'you have to love finance or you won't survive' mentality. when you work in any environment day-in-day-out you will naturally develop and interest for it (tho 16 hours is another story of-course).

Lol, nobody is doing IB for the money, the money is piss poor after tax combined with the hours worked and living in London.

Unless you're such a good liar that you can bullsh*t your way through the interviews despite having no interest in the job (which you seem to have done Anton Kreill Junior and honestly well done to you for it), you're not even going to get the job in the first place. When the competition is so immense, you're not going to get hired over someone that already has an interest if you're just counting on developing the interest on the job.
