How has watching such videos influenced your own opinion on that question? I am hoping you will say that you now believe even more strongly that the enemies of the ISIS death cult should not emulate its inhuman distribution of snuff videos. But having read some of the other contributions to this thread, I'm not sure that you don't take the opposite view.

I don't think we should emulate them, nor to I think we should suppress them. It is about evaluating the ruthlessness of your enemy. When Achilles fought Hector he removed his helmet so there would be no doubt who he was fighting. Watching those videos is the symbolic equivilent of looking ISIS in the face.

Yes. Justice is very satisfying and I consider their lives meaningless. People who try to hurt others out of greed or because they're extremist nuts deserve no better.

Deliberately hurting others to achieve greedy goals is something that probably at least half of the 90000 people jailed in Britain each year are guilty of, let alone those who are handed non-custodial sentences, or those whose actions don't even bring them into contact with the criminal justice system in the first place. If you want all of them to be publicly executed, surely you are an extremist?

Why distribute enemy propaganda?

I was once shown one by a work college he didn't explain what it was

If I close my eyes I can still see the man struggling to breath as his throat was cut.

NEVER again

I do think it should be a criminal offense to intentionally watch these

So you think the footage of the JFK assassination, played in high school history classes for decades, should be illegal?

Yes. It shows a man being murdered.

But watching it and distributing it is a victimless crime.

It should be the same as watching and distributing child pornography.

Jordanian pilot burnt in a cage.

I watched that one, amongst quite a few offers. Truly horrific but reminded me how awful these people are and why we need to fight them.
Unfortunately yes... I watched ISIS execute a man by having a tank run him over. I honestly wanted to cry.

Watching islamic terrorists or armed robbers getting killed is great fun.

what about non-islamic terrorists? Do you get upset when they are killed?

I agree with you. I think it should be a criminal offence to distribute them, and also to possess them knowingly, just as it is with child pornography. They are what used to be called "snuff movies". Several years ago, before Youtube, there was some public discussion as to whether such films existed or whether their existence was imaginary. It was possible to have that discussion because most people hadn't seen one and the criminals involved in making them weren't going to admit it. Now they are mainstream. It doesn't stop being a snuff movie just because the newspapers tell you about it and you can get it sent to you along an internet connection provided by Vodafone or the Post Office without either you or them being raided by the police. What really scares me is there's so little debate about whether that's a good situation. I mean is anyone going to post to this thread, even, to say that it's good, or that it's the "price of freedom"? It's horrendous, is what it is.

Have you watched video footage of real killings, for example showing the killing of prisoners held by ISIS, or the killing of Saddam Hussein, or the killing of anyone else?

Once accidentally seen Mexican gangsters execute two police informers; I didn't know the clips showed the horrible bit. i quickly shut my netbook and felt sick for two days! Disgusting! and i don't understand people who watch them in order to post their reaction either on youtube or blogs etc.... just horrid... I agree with you both; its not only criminal but perverse.

But... It's not the same. It's not fuelling a highly unethical industry. There is no industry where people are videoed being murdered for entertainment.

I saw the Saddam Hussein hanging, was a sad day for most Arabs.

Isn't that the point of the videos to entertain to show people what they are doing,

As I said it's my opinion and you won't make me change my mind

I watch these videos (not regularly) for a few reasons.

1) I have watched a few ISIS etc videos because that is the only way we can truly *see* what people like this do. It's all well and good having a vague idea of what they are doing but people need to see these videos. It makes it really hit home how abhorrent these people are, and thus reinforces why we need to eliminate these people.

2) It makes you realise how fragile life is and how quickly things can go completely wrong. For instance, there are plenty of battlefield videos where one second a guy is alive, and then he will be shot in the head by a random bullet. Another example is the huge swathe of videos of horrendous traffic accidents in India, where people come out of it delirious from the pain of having their face ripped off and open leg fractures. It reminds you how close you are to death sometimes and how lucky you are to be safe. It reminds you to be safe, because you don't want that happening to you. They can act as a lesson - e.g. don't play on railway lines, don't go on jihad, etc etc.

3) Similarly, watching these videos makes you realise that these things do happen. They don't just happen in films - they happen in real life to real people, which a few lines in a news article doesn't really convey. There's no point in living in a bubble thinking this would never happen, because it does.

4) Sometimes they are truly fascinating. I just watched a video of a human brain being removed during an autopsy. I've seen videos of people who have had their chest ripped open, and you can see the scale of their lung contraction/expansion. They can be quite amazing. They may even go some way to reducing your queasiness when you see these things in real life, so that you would be better able to deal with them. However, I can't say this for sure.

I've seen soooo many, I can't even count. Does not really bother me any more but if it's a bullying or an animal getting killed video then pisses me off. :security:
seen loads the worse is probably a 17yr old girl being beheaded in Mexico or three young men being beheaded by the gulf cartel
I've seen several bodycam and dashcam recordings of police shootings from the US and South Africa, and while living in the middle east it wouldn't be uncommon every few weeks or so to drive past the body of a slave worker who had collapsed and passed from exhaustion and/or dehydration, especially in the summer.

The first video I saw of killings was after the whole WikiLeaks hype, and there was some footage that had been released of american troops torturing and killing a civilian family in Iraq while filming it on a cell phone. I was 15 then, it took therapy to deal with it.

I didn't say to distribute it, I just suggested we shouldn't suppress it. That type of propaganda can cut both ways.
