Should prostitution be legalized?

I say yes: I don't think there is anything ethically wrong with prostitution in theory, and all of its problems are due to it being an underground industry. If one looks at the porn industry, since it has become more mainstream and acceptable, we've seen porn production companies run entirely by women who treat their actors and actresses very well.

If escort companies could be properly audited it would make them safer for all involved, and as the industry became more acceptable, prostitutes would feel less isolated and less negative feelings about themselves as their public image improved.

To those who claim that prostitution by its very nature is the exploitation of women, could you define what you mean by "exploitation" and explain how it differs in this instance from any and all exchanges it could ubiquitously be applied to?

To those who say it degrades women could you explain what you mean by "degrade" in a way that shows that it isn't just an entirely subjective opinion?

Mate we debate Islam everyday on about three different threads at the same time, and yet I try and find something else to talk about but you don't think it's worth it because there was once one on another forum ages ago.

Is it? :erm:
as long as it is all done in the right way I think it is fine
Prostitution is already legalised in the UK, but yes, I think it should be legalised in the US.
I'm fairly sure it is in the UK. Brothels aren't though.

The literal definition of degrading is, 'causing a loss of self-respect; humiliating'. Prostitution diminishes the human body with women exploiting and selling themselves for a means of making money. It completely degrades the act of love and the women involved.
It should be heavily regulated. Remove the 'pimp' and then raise the age of consent to 21 then yep.

Not everybody considers sex an act of love.
I think it should be.

Clearly under very specific conditions.

I was chatting to an ex prostitute ,now a madam, last night about the fact that prices seem to have come down in the last year or two,in London anyway, and she said that its partly because the police are clamping down on brothels with more than one girl causing many more women to go indie.

She said that a lot of women are using hotels as their base now for one thing.

So I dunno but it seems from that that if it was illegalised then prices would come down.

I mean because whether it was legal or not it would still carry on regardless but for one thing the women would value their regular trusted clients more and charge them less.

So er yeah I think that means I'm in favour of it being illegal.

Plus it would make the whole thrill of it even more exciting.

It isn't.

Brothels etc are clearly forbidden.

The escort services that we do have in this country do not explicitly offer sex. They offer 'company' or whatever word they decide to use.
Yes it should be.

But as long as workers have consented and are practising safe sex.
