Another sixth form

Hello, does anyone have any tips for me to ace my GCSE's? I'm trying to get in a sixth form which prefers most A's and A*'s
Sure, can you tell me what subjects you do? That way I can give the best tips. :h:

Ok, I do English Literature (edexcel)
English Language (CIE)

English Language: (these are my tips for the AQA exam board, possibly similar to CIE AND Edexcel?)

Practise your writing skills by writing different types of texts

Read books to build your vocabulary

Read the newspaper daily and analyse them

Watch Mr Bruff's videos on YouTube

English Literature: (same as above, tips for the AQA exam board)

Make sure you are confident with the books you are studying

Summarise the books you know in bullet points and check if you have covered each important section

Analyse every single thing in every poem, each little bit has a meaning

Try to compare different poems

Maths (AQA, I struggle with this)

Maths:

All I can say is past paper questions. Only start doing the past paper questions once you are sure you have covered every topic.

Work through the ExamSolutions videos if you ever feel you feel like you are stuck on any section

Feel free to post in the TSR GCSE Maths Forum if you are unsure about something (make sure provide the question and what you have already done)

Do every single past paper

Mark your papers and see where you have gone wrong

Look to do IGCSE papers once you have done all of the GCSE ones

Here's a thread for some amazing resources.

Science core (OCR 21st Century)
Science additional (OCR 21st century)

Science:

Record yourself talking and listen to yourself when you commute

Makes notes on every topic

Try summarising your content

Talk through all content with someone willing to listen

Revision cards are good for summarising

Make sure you know all the content before attempting any past paper questions

Do a good amount of past papers, if you complete them all attempt the IGCSE ones

Definitely mark every paper you do, if you are struggling to mark it ask your teacher to do it for you

See where you have gone wrong and look to improve on the section for the next paper you do

In exam tips:

Take your time to read the question carefully

Underline keywords to emphasise to yourself what you are looking to answer

If ever in an exam situation you don't have enough time to answer a question then bullet point the key points of the essay you could have written

Be sure to use keywords as that's what gets you the marks

Re (edexcel, don't really need help with this usually get A*)

I'll leave that out.

Business (OCR)

Computing (OCR)

No idea for these two, I'm sorry. :frown:

I guess past papers are key, so keep at them.

History (edexcel, need help with this)

History:

Summarise the content of each module on one sheet of paper and memorise this

Condense events into 3 bullet points [Linking with the point above]

Make a list of significant events and their dates and highlight each one you manage to remember

Do every single past paper question

Plan your essays with bullet points within a minute

Time yourself when doing essays

Practice writing really fast

You can always use the TSR Study Resources for any subject, pretty helpful revision material on there. Also there is a very useful Study Planner on TSR which you may use, if you find that timetables are something you don't stick to then make a list of things to do per day/week and tick it off as you go along.

Check out these awesome revision tips by a fellow TSR user.

Use the Forest application on your phone to focus.

If you need any help TSR is a great platform to ask on.

Hope this helps.
