How do I 'throw myself into' a shy character?

So I have my drama exam next week (edexcel), and my drama teacher told us to get good marks we really need to throw ourselves into our characters. The only problem is, my character is very shy/quiet/reserved. I'm finding it really hard to show I'm putting a lot of effort in compared to everyone else as my character isn't that outgoing! I'm scared the examiner will mistake my characterisation for lack of effort and confidence. Any tips?

then explain that to your teacher., Am sure they will understand since that is what's expected of you. i don't take drama but is there not a script? wouldn't they read that to know if your were acting like your character?
