are immigrants taking our jobs/ harming the british public chances

Can the UK economy cope with the level of immigration the UK is facing? Is the economy creating enough jobs? Has immigration caused the housing crisis?

If anything, immigrants are buying us time. Our population is ageing, our birthrate is falling. In a few years, without young workers coming here, we'd have a crisis where millions of elderly non-workers sponge pensions and benefits off the State, and nobody around to produce resources for the State. We'd be in a position similar to Japan, which has been rocky for the past 15 years or so.
They take our jobs leading to higher unemployment amongst the British Public. Wages are being driven down. They place pressure on education, healthcare, housing, transport and welfare. Some have no skills, can't speak English properly and fail to integrate into British society. Crime is commonplace amongst immigrants and some come here to exploit the British system e.g. They commit benefit fraud and evade tax. Some give no importance to British values because they are either anti-British, anti-Women, anti-LGBT or racist. I don't buy the idea that the British population is ageing badly since ethnic minorities have more kids than the average Brit.

Wrong, the Birth Rate has actually been on the rise and even the TFR for White British Women has risen considerably since the lows of the early 2000's. Births outnumber deaths and so natural population increase still occurs. Immigration is also vital to the growth rate but please don't state things that are wrong.

No one is taking anyone's jobs.
They're not taking jobs as such, but immigrants from lower paid countries are willing to work for less because it is still less than they earn in their home countries, thereby undercutting local workers driving down wages.
Attempts are bing made to address this:

Immigrants contribute to pressure on housing, but are certainly not the only cause of this. There's also some evidence of immigrants being net fiscal contributors. So if immigrants are viewed purely as units of labour then they are a good thing. It is the social aspect which can be more problematic when there is a refusal to integrate.

Maybe immigrants will do a better job and are more passionate to work than your average lazy British person.

Lazy conjecture, and a pretty crude stereotype. It's not lazy to want a commensurate wage for your work.

Indeed, our population is ageing. But immigrants age too, and some may decide to stay here permanently. And then what, even more immigrants?

And it's strange you cite Japan. You know the Japanese are not dealing with their ageing population problems by allowing in immigrants en masse. Certainly not at the levels we have seen in recent decades in this country.

Can't rep you again :frown:.

OP:

There are several studies done on the effects of immigration on "native" wages, employment, public finances, etc. None are cited in these kinds of threads (for good reason, very few if any support the views of the people who usually start these sort of threads).
Why do people always blame immigrants for the failings of Britain???

Britain has a poor work ethic, too many entitled people, and lower economic productivity per person than the State of California, which has nearly half the amount of people living there.

Immigrants are a net contribution to Britain.

Another thing to bear in mind is that when people bang on about leaving the EU, and having a points system, what they fail to realize is that the UK is not the only country that "skilled people" want to move to. Why would someone that is highly skilled move to the UK when they could move to the US (which has better weather, lower taxes, and lower cost of living)?

Yawn. That's never been said before.
I mean the housing problem is real, we had a estate build near our nice town, nearly everyone in there is polish. the quality of life has gone down around here.
A net immigration of 300,000 a year isn't sustainable. All you need is common sense to work that one out.
No UKIP supporters and the tories are

Having a lower economic productivity per person than California means you have a poor work ethic? It's not like California is the economic powerhouse of the richest country in the world or anything is it? What a ridiculous argument.

Failing to realise that the UK is the only country that 'skilled people' want to go to isn't a common thought among those who want a points system. In fact, I'm pretty sure you've just plucked that out of thin air. People just look at the worrying and unsustainable immigration figures and want to see a change. It's pretty reasonable to want stricter border controls.
If you look at the people bitching about immigrants taking their jobs, they tend to have absolutely atrocious spelling and grammar, and just be all-round morons. That's almost definitely reflected in their CVs. They're not getting jobs because they're incompetent idiots, not because the immigrants have taken all the jobs.

IF you want high wages, then you can have expensive goods.

Record low crimes rates and immigrants are less likely to claim to benefits.

That doesn't even make sense.

It is obvious that it is sustainable.

Well, it isn't that strange. The Japanese are xenophobic.

They are not dealing with their ageing problem.
