What do people do at parties?

I don't have any friends / social life and there are events going on at my workplace which are like engagement parties and office parties.

My question is If I was to attend I don't know what to do, so what do people do at parties?

I'm afraid of just being there not talking to anyone and just not fitting in.

Get smashed/(+ any other words to that effect), sing, dance, sit and talk about ****.

I generally just pet their cats while drinking cider.
If I was to attend my office work party, I would have to go by myself.

Who do I go up to? If people were talking in a group how do I join the group?

If I have to go alone to something like that I usually look for someone else that looks at bit awkward and try to chat to them lol :u:

I know a few people but they might be in their own groups

Parties I attend are usually PC-based party games, plenty of alcohol, and good music. And by good music, I don't mean any of that **** that gets played at most parties... we want 90s punk and 80s hits
How do I join a group of people then?
