As level maths trapezium rule

Can someone word the trapezium rule really simply because my teacher has gone on paternity leave and we have been left to learn it independently 😯

Do you understand what the trapezium rule does for you?

It's a way of approximating the area under a curve by dividing that area into a set of strips of equal width, and each strip is approximately a trapezium. You know how to work out the area of a trapezium from GCSE, so this gives you a way of approximating the total area by adding up the individual areas of the strips (trapezia).

This in turn gives you an approximate value for a definite integral, since the definite integral gives you the exact value for an area.

Most textbooks usually explain this fairly simply with a diagram showing what's going on, so you should find something in your standard AS course book :smile:
