From what I see on TSR and hear from younger people irl, both genders seem to have some pretty ridiculous ideas about what they are going to get out of the mating game.

True that it's women who think of themselves as 'settling' but not sure there's an issue of many women being unmarried later in life as a result of this attitude. The spinster is a figure of light hearted fun in pop culture, see Bridget Jones, but in real life most women do end up paired up with someone. You'd be right in thinking though that satisfaction levels have dived, as women expect more from their partners than ever and get a rude awakening down the line when he doesn't transform into the man you'd hoped he'd be.
As they say; men marry women hoping they won't change but they do, women marry men hoping they will change but they don't.
