Edexcel G&P Ideologies 2016

Hi guys.

To anyone else doing this topic, how are you revising for it? And are you finding your revision successful?

I find that I'm struggling to memorise information at the moment, the textbooks seem to be endless, and it's too much to process!
I'm struggling too, all seems so vague and the questions seem to want you to build points of tiniest amounts of information...

I would suggest using Flashcards and incorporating the exam questions into them, that way your flashcards are directly addressing what the exam is asking you

As for successful it takes a long time but I certainly feel more confident after making each set

What are you doing currently for revising politics?

I find that I simply cannot answer an exam question under timed conditions, I have to look at the mark scheme - the questions constantly stump me. :s-smilie: My AS revision methods are not working at all.

Well I have been focussing my revision on exam questions, making notes for it. This seems to have a bit of success but still not 100% confident. If a question asks for whether anarchism is utopian I don't answer it; I just plan it out and find points that support the question.

What grade are you aiming for?
The questions constantly confuse me as well, I'll think i've covered a whole topic, then look at a past question and realise I've never even heard of that aspect of x ideology :s-smilie:

So do you feel like your revision method encompasses the whole of each ideology? because currently my method covers about 90-95% of it, as I tend to discover new areas of the ideology i've never seen as i work through past questions...

AS seems like a much simpler time :'...

I'm hoping for an A or an A* so I'm really concerned about politics at the moment  what about you?

I tend to find the latter ideologies (Nationalism etc) much easier than the first 4....

Oh my, that is exactly the same for me.

I am aiming for the same, realistically politics will not be my A* grade but it needs to be an A grade. Terrified!!

Yes, I especially like multiculturalism and nationalism - they seem have more predictable questions when you look at the past papers?
Yeah I'm so terrified too :s-smilie:

True, though I tend to find Ecology and feminism are the easiest of the last four? They seem to be smaller topics in general I think. Are you planning on doing 6 instead of 8 ideologies seeing as you don't have to revise them all?

So in terms of your revision, you're just making notes relevant to exam questions?

I do NOT get on with ecologism AT ALL! It is the worst topic ever.

I will be doing them all, because I will totally kick myself if I'm faced with difficult questions and I omit one ideology. However, I will initially do 6 in depth and then when I have extra time I will cover the last topic, so it is kind of low priority if that makes sense?

And basically yes, that combined with reading the textbook from cover to cover repeatedly. :pinch:
Nah Conservatism or Nationalism are the worst, especially as Conservatism itself is basically not an ideology, just a reaction to other ideologies :h:

Yeah that's what i'm planning to do, how many have you done so far?

Ahh i'm just doing as many past questions as I can, seems to be the best way now.

But doesn't that just make Conservatism perfect? The exam questions on internal coherence and pragmatism v principle are easy in comparison with socialism 45 markers!
