Its where the care quality commission will carry out an inspection into a place of care, such as a nursing home and they look into things like quality of care, staffing and health and safety things.
Being in the CQC must be like being the Queen, the whole world smelling of paint, polish and bull.

But yeah, what clairestelle just said, they're an inspectorate that come and inspect places of care, from GP practices to hospitals. You can read some of their reports on their website, it should help give you a bit of an insight into what they look at: http://www.cqc.org.uk/
