Are men supposed to be providers?

Apparently men are meant to provide and protect, despite women having mire opportunities in the workplace and sexism is hardly an issue

This ignores the fact that men on average still earn more than women.

So if one parent has to stay at home to look after the child whilst the other works, this will continue to be the man as he will probably be earning more.

But, no, men are not 'supposed' to be anything. No one is.
A relationship should be equal. There is no reason for a man to feel that he has to be a provider, but saying that, there are many men who like to be the provider. I'm sure there are also women who would like that.

It's a traditional view that men are supposed to be providers but it's something that still happens and a lot of people still like. If we look at the role of women who do choose to have children as well, then often they choose to have a job that's more flexible around the child therefore the man does have more of a role for providing for the family there. Of course though there are also men who now choose to do so....but basing it off a majority here.
Yeah, men are meant to be providers, women are meant to be in the kitchen, and this is 1916

That is because women take on more lower paid positions, and also choosing motherhood over a career.

Women do more then me these days. All men have to do is provide with money....women do it all. In 2016

Coming home from work, taking care of kids, cooking sometimes go to the gym. Men just sit on the couch after work.

But the government ensures there is no sexism in the workplace by enforcing the Equal Pay Act 1970( it has been amended in 2010) that men and women get paid the same amount. Thus, this allows women to be economically dependent and they don't need to depend on men anymore. Why do you think couples are divorcing more nowadays? Women are more liberated and better than they were 40 years ago.

This ideology you have is what the traditional Conservative party behold not our current modern society.
Any feminist's opinions please?
No one is supposed to be the provider; in a relationship, men and women can do whatever they please. They might both choose to provide. They might decide the man should be the primary provider. They might decide the woman should be. They might not make any decisions - perhaps it will just work like that. Neither gender is more qualified, it all depends on the person.
