Labour or Conservative?

Really?

The poll is now closed - Labour have won this particular battle.

As things stand, I cannot think of a single thing that either Labour or the Conservatives could do to make me vote Labour in 2020.

Do a major house building program

Definitely conservative its not like i would vote for the soon to be communist party

Of course one way to do a major house building program is to free up a pile of land and let developers at it.

The government it's clear we need more than a million council houses and it's also clear we need to build double the amount of housing we do currently to halt these price rises which are completely driven by demand

Well I disagree, and I think that allowing private developers some more scope to get on with it would be a perfectly adequate solution, but this is miles away from an issue of sufficient magnitude to make me think about voting labour.

If you were forced to vote for either Labour or the Conservatives, who would you vote for?

Well the conservatives built more council houses in the last parliament than labour did under Blair and brown combined.

"More than x and y" generally isn't a good descriptor. The Tories have consistently and proudly consistently stand with the landlords, if your concern is building more council housing, you are incredibly naive to back the Tories. By all means be sceptical of Labour for delivering, but at least they back council housing.

So the conservatives tax landlords loads more and take away their mortgage interest relief yet they constantly stand with landlords. Ok

Conservatives build more council houses in 5 years of austerity than labour do in 13 years 10 of which are boom years but labour support council housing. Ok

Also I said I was bothered about building more housing, council housing is just part of that.

Next you will tell me labour is the party of the working class lol

They lowered the upper tax rate, which benefits the landlord class. They opposed the requirement for rented property to be of a minimum standard.

They also have "spent" more on the health service than previous governments they also "increased their debt" than previous governments. It's a requirement not to build "more" but to build at a continually increasing rate, on the specific point of council housing, you'll need specific schemes to build cheap, basic housing, that can't be left for laissez-faire private enterprise.

Building expensive houses isn't a bad thing, as long as there's an upper market (if taxed appropriately) I have no qualms with houses built for the upper quartiles, but it seriously ignores the housing dilemma.

Who is the party of the working class? Probably something like the TUSC, ultimately Labour is the nearest to a working class party in mainstream Britain. Certainly if you're pro-Tory, despise unions and the in work benefits they bring then you definitely aren't defending the working class.
