Edinburgh Minf vs CS+AI?

Hi, can anyone shed some light on the differences between the two courses? As far as I see it, Minf Informatics is a 5 year undergrad masters that include computer science and artificial intelligence+2 year project. However, does it cover the same amount of depth in artificial intelligence compared to a CS+AI joint undergraduate degree?

Thanks
Have you had a look at the course schedules at drps.ed.ac.uk for both courses? Those go into quite a lot of depth. I recently compiled a spreadsheet comparing all the CS degree courses, and I can send you a copy of that if you like. But generally speaking, MInf gives you more of a choice over what you can specialise in (eg. in 3rd year you can choose a practical option from CompSci/SoftEng/AI) whereas AI+CS is more limited (in 3rd year you have to do the AI practical). You also take less modules in your fourth year (so you can work on the MInf project) which you then catch up on in fifth year.

I know this thread is a few years old. But if anyone has a copy of the spreadsheet comparing the CS degree courses, I would really appreciate a copy.

The situation has changed a little bit since the OP because courses have been rejigged a bit since then.

Basically:
- MInf students do a 5-year degree, BSc students do a 4-year degree.
- MInf students have to take 40 credits of dissertation work in both year 4 and year 5; BSc students only take 40 credits of dissertation in year 4.
- The first two years of both options are functionally identical, in that MInf students have the same compulsory courses as AI+CS students
- In year 3 and 4, both degrees have the same set of course choices, from a general 'AI group' and 'CS group'. The difference is that AI+CS students must take a balance of courses across both groups, and MInf students can take whatever balance they want.
- In year 5, MInf students can take Masters-level courses which are not available to BSc students.

Take a look at the degree listings here: for MInf and for BSc.
