Can I work in a hospital ,treating patients?

Hello everybody

I hope this message finds you well !

I'm a Brazilian guy who completed a BSc of pharmacy in Brazil , then graduated with a MSc cardiovascular sciences from UK in 2015.
the reason that I chose this course is that it is my passion to work in a hospital and treat patients as well as to take a care of them since I have a history of heart diseases in my family as well as I see and feel their suffer everyday.

So, my question is that :
is there any way, program, or course that will help me to be trained and registered as a cardiologist and gives me the opportunity to work in the hospital?

Kind regards,
Hi! From what I know, you'll need to do a medical degree to be able to do that; being a cardiologist requires much more than just seeing patients and treating their diseases. You'll need to qualify as a doctor before you can do that as at the moment you just have the limited scientific side of being a doctor. You require at least another 5 years of study in the UK before you can qualify to be on your way to become a cardiologist (specialising takes even longer). Hope this helps

The only (realistic) route I could see (at least in the UK) would be to register as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (regulator of pharmacists in the UK), work as a specialist / lead cardiology pharmacist in hospital, become an independent prescriber, and then potentially run your own clinic with your own patient case load where you may initiate heart failure therapy etc.

This is of course assuming that you want to work as a pharmacist.

you can become a cardiac physiologist. you're not a doctor, but you still have patient contact. You could looking into one of the NHS training programmes, or you could do a masters

Thank you so much guys for the helpful info,

I think the only way in my situation is to become a cardiology pharmacist!!
any roadmaps or opinions how to pursue to be a cardiology pharmacist?.
In other words, what programs would you advise me to apply 2016/ 2017?

Sincerely,

You would have to look into registering as a pharmacist with the GPhC first, and then apply for a Band 6 pharmacist job in hospital.

You may be able to apply for graduate entry medicine- it's an accelerated course so just 4 years. Not sure about your eligibility if you're from abroad, but worth some research!
