As a Muslim woman I can 100% certify that this is ******** in its truest form.

The whole idea of a progressive society is that the people move forward collectively. Would you ever see a quotation from the Old Testament bible that encouraged stoning homosexuals to death? No, because it's old society. It isn't (widely) followed today. People no longer believe in the old beliefs or live in a society that is non-secular and require religious beliefs of the people.

Don't believe everything you read. I certainly don't stand around waiting for a man to escort me to wherever I want to go. Educate yourselves before passing judgements on something you don't fully understand. ~
With all due respect, it would appear that it is you who does not understand how Islam works, nor the immutable and perfect nature of the Quran and the example of the prophet.

Their commands and instructions cannot be cast aside simply because "society has moved on".

So, how do you stand on instructions from Muhammad generally, given his "perfect example" and Allah's command to "Obey Allah and his messenger"?

muhammad didnt say women should not travel 48hrs

No. But apparently he said that an unaccompanied woman may not travel for more than 3 days.

And I was referring to all mandatory instructions and commands in the Quran and sunnah, not just this one. Are you required to follow them or not?

Because it's backward thinking from some desert region 1600 years ago where women were property and some sad little men want to keep this control and sadly some women so closeted by this control accept it to be fact?

Is that why?

Or do you want to try and explain to us how this is a 'thing'

pretty sure it stems from a safety and marital vows perspective than control

But no.
[QUOTE=Clintbarton;64629015]As a Muslim woman I can 100% certify that this is ******** in its truest form.

It is a part of old Muslim law - as in thousands of years ago.

Society has moved on, as we all have. The only reason the newspaper commented on it is a) their demographic was failing so intensely they required content to spark a debate and being their newspaper some attention and b) because the media wants to incite a fear or rejection, in this case the latter, of Muslim and 'foreign' policies, cultures and religions.

It's a ploy for segregation between races and religions. They want to incite fear and for people to ridicule something that they don't understand so people will read articles by some inherently innate 'journalist' whose only article with an actual audience is news from thousands of years ago.

Don't believe everything you read. I certainly don't stand around waiting for a man to escort me to wherever I want to go. Educate yourselves before passing judgements on something you don't fully understand. ~

Just cause you're a muslim doesn't mean that you know the religion inside out. That's why we have scholars. Islam has a LOT of information in it so don't go round claiming "with 100% certainty" that something is false. You have some bravery to say that an authentic hadith is false.

Just because YOU don't follow the rule, don't go round saying that it's false (Such is the plight of uneducated people like yourself).

I understand the meaning of all the words you used, but not the way you put them together.

Do all robbers, brigands and predatory lotharios only live more than 3 days travel from anyone's house?

Unfortunately, you (and many Muslims) see this as a good thing, whereas I (and many non-Muslims) see this as Islam's main problem.

That's not why nobody's forcing me to be a Muslim. That is because I live in a secular democracy. If I lived in an Islamic theocracy governed by a traditionalist reading of the abrogated Quran and hadith, I certainly would be forced to submit to Islam!

Yes because "There is no compulsion in religion" is a fake Quranic verse, right?

And also, if I lived in Rohingya, I would be burned to death because I'm not Buddhist. But you don't see me making 500 posts a day complaining/criticising Buddhism. I'm just genuinely intruiged how one can be so obsessed with posting Islamophobic comments on a site for students?
