The benefits of celibacy

Scroll to see replies

Was talking to a colleague of mine at a place where I volunteer and she was telling me that she has 8 grandchildren and is about to become a great grandmother, one of her children and one of her grandchildren are pregnant at the same time. I kept thinking, this woman looks so young, she couldn't possibly be a great grandmother . all her family had their kids very early.
It seems like people don't think before they breed lol.

What's wrong with any of that? Quit being so self-righteous about your supreme abilities to resist the evil temptations of sex innit

Nothing normal about being a grandma at 36.

Oh well. At least she'll hopefully have an old age surrounded by family/ kids. It's not that rare to be a grandma in your 30 s.

it isn't?...
Its a great life strategy for maintaining ones integrity in professional life. I dont think most people really object too strongly to working class people ****ing around like animals but something seems inherently wrong when hard working professionals like doctors and nurses do so. Its no coincidence that a highly religious society like India churns out scores of the worlds greatest Doctors as a result.

Well it is rare but it's not vanishingly rare/ unheard of.

What do you define as working class people?

Blue collar init.
Good on her, I haven't had any sex for at least 6-7 years but wouldn't want to continue that for the next 5-10 years.

For some people celibacy could solve a lot of problems. Too many people make stupid decisions in the name of love or even for the momentary overrated pleasure of sex. It's a valid lifestyle choice and you can't dismiss it.

Original post by sherlockfan
There are no known benefits to sex either. So why take the risk? Celibacy isnt stupid, it's a rational choice.

The benefits of sex are very well documented.

1. Improve immunity.
2. 45% less likely to develop a heart disease.
3. Lower blood pressure.
4. Increase exercise for the body.
5. Relieve pain.
6. Reduce risk of prostate cancer.
7. Improve sleep.
8. Relieve stress.
9. Improve bladder control for women.

Using a condom can protect you against many STIs and the man abandoning her had nothing to do with sex, but his being a horrible person.

To use this case to 'argue' for celibacy is the same as using a death on the surgery table to 'prove' that people shouldn't go see a doctor for anything, or using a case of someone having an allergic reaction to nuts to say people should avoid vegetables and fruit.

lol!

Where exactly did she say she stayed celibate?

Chances are that she's been sleeping around and not committing to anyone.

No, that's not entirely true. Yes sex does have many health benefits however Buddhist monks are great example of why this is not entirely the case. They have been proven to be exceptionally healthy in regards to their mental health, being described as 'the most happiest people on earth' though they are celibate and die celibate. They seem to live very fulfilling lives making compassion and meditation a top priority so one could argue meditation is a psychological need as studies have proven there are many benefits of engaging in regular meditation as the monks engage in. I honestly think sex is great and I'm all for it however I wouldn't say someone is entirely missing out if they decided to be celibate for the rest of their life (if it's really what they want) rather a life lived with compassion and love seems more important for social beings <3 with some meditation added here and there. As seen with these awesome, celibate Buddhist monks.

Confounding factors. They also live a life with less stress, facing less pollution, eating healthier food.

Where was the post that proved the entire medical community wrong on sex having both physical and psychological health benefits?

There are no known benefits to celibacy whilst there are many for having sex. It is also natural and purposeful to have sex. In fact, if there was no god, the only purpose humans serve on Earth would be to mate; if there was the Christian god, god had made it perfectly clear that mating is humans' purpose on Earth.

The 'cases' you have used to argue for celibacy is, as I've said, the same as making a case against people consulting a doctor because there have been medical tragedies.

So one second you said you were talking about staying celibacy yourself not forcing your 'lifestyle' on other people, the next second you're recommending specific types of people to stay celibate?

The video didn't say one way or another - we cannot tell if she has ever had sex. So perhaps she has stayed celibate. We simply don't know. It's not a case for anything.

That's ridiculous. Many of the 'facts' you posted aren't proven, they're just vague correlations. There are many other variables that come with good health and sex isn't one of them. I'm not going to develop heart disease or have high blood pressure for choosing to be celibate.
Your analogy doesn't even make sense. There's a difference between choosing not to have sex and not seeking medical help.

I said maybe she should be. I can't force anyone not to have sex. Get off your high horse.
Tbh I posted that link so long ago that I've forgotten what it is and I can't seem to open it.
