Because Islam is a religion of peace

Lol yes OP this is why

it was metaphoric...

pig & alcohol can be anything that Islamic country don't agree with.

it can be oil, it can be freedom, it can be way of life, it can be other resources.....

The west doesn't care that Arab countries don't eat pigs or drink alcohol or any of the Islamic way of life. We do have a problem when they kill their own people on a wide scale (Hussein, Assad, Gaddafi) and when they become breeding grounds for extremism and terrorism which has obvious impacts on the West and local geopolitics.

All we want to do is trade with you and for you to treat your neighbours, Sunni or Shiite or Jew, with freedom and respect.

We are quite happy to accept the Islamic way of life for you. Parts of it are quite beautiful.

What was hateful about my simple and factual description of Islam and its origins? The only possible point of contention is that Mohammed invented Islam and that it did not spring from a deity.

I certainly hate Islam, but for very good and reasonable reasons. I do not hate Moslems, though, and even have a few Moslem friends. They are well-adjusted ones who are assimilated into western life and pay as much heed to Islamic doctrine as Roman Catholics do to the Pope's views on contraception.

Not 'factual' at all. Wrong. There were prophets before Muhammed SAW who would also spread the message of Islam.

I doubt there are reasonable reasons but yeah whatever floats your boat. Lol what western life is it you speak of? You're probably a bad influence to them or they're not very educated on their religion to think like that.

there is nothing 'phobia' about hating islam. there are clear good reasonable reason why we shouldn't accept that backwards ideology.

Only if you define Islam as being any worship of the Abrahamic god. Yet that is clearly not a valid claim, as neither Jews nor Christians are Moslems and do not follow Islam in any way. Indeed, they are treated by Islam as outsiders (not as beyond the pale as atheists and polytheists, admittedly, but outsiders nonetheless).

I'm bringing back north korea, they do many things to their own too....why don't America do anything? believe me, if they wanted they could.

I know alcohol and pig, sounds so stupid, but you want believe, actually you will, and you probably know it waaay better than me how many friendships come from parties, alcohol involved meetings, even at college and at uni......

You be friends with people who go to pub with you, you have a drink, chat....

People invite non drinkers once, twice, but not more...

I have no influence on their superstitions but they certainly are not Salafis, thank goodness, which gives them a head start in being reasonable people.
No idea really. The only theory i have is the word grew because there are so many "muslims" who are 'bad'. But this is kinda proportional to how many muslims there are globally, in total. Also it seems that there is a clash between the west and arab states that started from ages ago and continues... thr west are afraid of the arabd

I have never thought about this. Maybe it's because Muslims tend to be focused on their religion so it causes more offense if you downplay their religion...I am not entirely sure though.

Maybe it's because we've had quite a lot of terrorist attacks motivated by Islam since 2001.

If Sikh terrorists had blown up the WTC, Madrid, London, Paris, Brussels, etc. I think we would have Sikhophobia now.

The Abrahamic religions were born from the desert, where there was you and your spirituality (the sun/moon/stars). This very much leads to dualistic thinking and an 'us and them' mentality which survived throughout the ages.
In contrast, the religions mentioned in the thread title were born from lush, fertile areas with life all around; this leads to a reverence for all life and (generally) not causing a fuss.

Because North Korea is backed by China. So, no, the Americans cannot do anything, even if they had wanted.

It's not factual when 1.8 billion people believe differently. That's just your view as a hateful islamophobe which differs from what atheist historians think of Islam.

You're not much of a "Good bloke" on TSR.
Why do you say "Moslem" rather than "Muslim"? Why do I feel that you're using some kind of derogatory term?

A non-Muslim teaching me. Great.

Oh again with the unnecessary false claims about Islam. If that's how you describe it, feel free.

Lol, sadly today in society everyone seems to label salafis as bad for whatever reasons. There isn't much of a difference compared to other Muslims with different schools of thought. The companions were Salaf. You could be reasonable too if you are a salaf. You're just deluded.

sooo... the "We do have a problem when they kill their own people..." is not valid reason, everything down to finance, money, mutual interest....

Killing people, freedom, human rights, media freedom.... it's all game, it's all fake things.... no government cares about it, they only use it to win financial battles....

Visa weaver for Turkey, yeees, because they will shut gates and keep Syrians in their territories, now west don't care about journalists, human rights, education, religion....

Hitchens had a theory about it :

Hitchens never actually said that. It's misattributed to him. (Though he did have more or less the same contempt for the word as the misquote suggests.)
[QUOTE=patrickstarfish;64674969]there is nothing 'phobia' about hating islam. there are clear good reasonable reason why we shouldn't accept that backwards ideology.

Linguistically, phobia can be used to mean "hate" as well as "fear".

There is such a thing as islamophobia. Don't try to justify your hatred. You guy always try and define "racism" and "islamophobia" to make it seem as though you're perfectly innocent when you're spreading hatred.

Islam isn't forcing you to accept its ideology. I will never understand why TSR's resident islamophobes compain about Islam as though they're forced to be muslims and believe in all the concepts of Islam.

(To all of you lot) If noone's forcing you to believe, then why spend so much time complaining about it and trying to stir hatred? I'm not saying you can't do it; feel free but why dedicate so much time to this? It's an obsession. What do you have to win/lose?

I think, maybe I could be wrong, that you guys feel threatened by Islam?
Original post by Erebor
I was wondering about this last night, how come islam gets so much bad rap while the other big religions are barely ever mentioned? I mean if you watch or read the news day in day out you almost never see them mentioned, never mind hear about millions hating or disliking them ?! And there are plenty of buddhists, hindus or sikhs in the UK but somehow there seems to be ZERO issues with them...

Hitchens had a theory about it :

In the Eastern vedic based religions, there isn't that same sense of entitlement. The ideologies are allowed to be criticised.
They don't hold themselves to the same importance and righteousness as the Abrahamic faiths

The difference between North Korea and the Middle East is that we have precious little influence over them, They don't trade with us. They have nuclear weapons. They are somewhat under Chinese protection. It's also a bad situation but we have so little power in the region outside of South Korea. It's a very very messy.

Alcohol is part of British socialising...but also non-alcohol is part of British socialising too! How much tea do we drink? And did you know that 20% of UK adults are teetotal? http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/feb/13/teetotallers-on-rise-in-uk-one-in-five-dont-drink

For myself, I didn't drink at all from the years of 18-21 and I had no problems socialising! Learn to dance without drinking. Being around drunk people whilst being sober can be great fun as you watch their antics. Sometimes they need looking after too! Occasionally, you might need to leave early but there's really nothing stopping you being with them. Even if you disagree with drunkeness, you don't have to judge them, you can just be around them and be their friends. They might even follow your example and drink less themselves.
