Accommodation for a quiet, non-alcoholic who also likes to socialise occasionally?

I am fully aware that picking an accommodation based off of stereotypes isn't the best idea, but I would like to know how the atmosphere of each hall is like in general. I will be doing Economics, and as you might have guessed from the title that I am an introverted person, and I'm not gonna lie... I sleep quite early:colondollar:. But I am not a hermit and need social interaction too. Preferably movies, day outs, brunch types of socials, but I wouldn't mind occasional bar trips. It would be great to know if there are any halls in particular that suits me the most. Distance won't be a problem. Thanks everyone in advance!

Haha, you literally just described me except I'll be studying law. I'm a potential fresher too and I'll suggest bluebell or heronbank

Any of them: it doesn't matter. Might want to avoid Rootes/Cryfield because they're close to the SU and don't have brilliant soundproofing (so you might be kept awake when there's an event on), but what you put in the description of yourself is vastly more significant than what accommodation you're in.

I am actually considering Westwood, Claycroft and Tocil because of their cheaper rent lol But thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into them as well!

I didn't know about the description, glad to know this thing exists!! Thanks!

Ahhh our description is pretty on par, especially being introverted but likes to socialize occasionally ! Only if i'm being honest, I do drink but nothing extravagant hahah.

Westwood sounds pretty attractive, and I think it'd suit you judging from the above?? For me, distance may be a problem as I'm doing Law so you can imagine how impractical it'd be, lugging around loads of stuff on a bike. Idk, i'm still on the fence !

Hi, I live in Tocil currently

It's medium for social life, in my experience, people haven't been loud or extremely drunk, noone in my flat has thrown up. Tocil is a really good location like it is near humanities/the library/ maths/ tesco/ the gym.

Like about 5 or 6 people go out out of 12 of us in our flat. About once or twice a week, not so much in this term (exams). And we pre together in the kitchen but people aren't usually loud coming home. Obviously all flats differ, but I don't think Tocil is party central, although it's still fun.

Be aware that if you put it on your list at all, even 5th or 6th place, you are likely to get it. It seems that way from this year anyway, no-one in my flat seems to have put it as their first choice.

Westwood is the furthest accommodation from campus. 15 minute walk maybe?

Avoid rootes. I've heard that bluebell is quite quiet. But it is the most expensive accommodation.

Good luck  Don't worry about it too much.

I sometimes do drink a bit with really close friends, but very rarely do I drink for the sake of drinking :P

The large rooms of Westwood appeal to me the most, but the number of people sharing one single bathroom is worrying for a clean freak like me! I might put Claycroft as my first choice since it's cheap and the bathroom is shared between 2 people only

Which hall do you have in mind at the moment?

Thanks for the reply! When you say people go out once or twice a week, do you mean night outs/clubbing or lunch/movie types of day outs? Also is it true that there is no sink in the bedroom?

The location sounds pretty decent. I guess the type of people that you're living with really depends on what you put on the description box doesn't it?

To be honest ever since you mentioned Westwood, i did some research on it and i'm kind of considering it now hahah. Yeah the large rooms is pretty appealing, and that its near the bus stops/train stations (i'm an international student so moving in and out will be integral to my stay there), a large desk for all those law books, and I think walking everyday would force out cabin fever. BUT yes the toilets are shared between 6 people ??? wow hmm ok. then again, i read that they get cleaned twice a week ??
I'm also considering Tocil and maaaybe Claycroft :-) bummer that those two don't have sinks in the room.

Thank you so much that was really helpful :-) yeah the location of Tocil is incomparable, and its really close to the social studies building (i'll be doing law). That sounds really nice though, going out with flatmates !
Does not having a sink inside your room bother you ?Also, you mentioned that no one in your flat put Tocil as their first choice ? Does this mean that the chance of getting your first choice is slim ?

I am considering to get a second-hand bike, it should be helpful if I really do get assigned to Westwood since I wake up in the last minute!! lol I am an international student too, where are you from? Seems like we have the same halls in mind at the moment. I read the same thing about the bathrooms in Westwood getting cleaned twice a week, but I am not sure if its the same for other halls?

Yeah I mean going out clubbing. Some of us will do things like get lunch together, but it depends on if you become good friends with your flatmates, or maybe you will be closer to coursemates etc. We did quite a lot of stuff together as a whole flat in the first term, but like flats differ a bit.

There's no sink in the bedroom. There is a bathroom, and 3 toilet rooms (all with showers), between 12 of us. It is a pretty standard accommodation, like nothing fancy, but it's decent.

Yeah, I'm sure you'll get on with your flat. Whether you really click with them just depends really. I am with 7 guys, and 3 other girls, and a girl on exchange who has left, so I haven't made like, close girl friends. But one of the guys in my flat has been my boyfriend for the last 6 months. So i'm really glad of how it all has worked out, and that I ended up in a flat with him! haha

No problem
The bathroom is two doors down from my room, so it doesn't really bother me.

I don't think many people put Tocil down as their first option, so they just took whoever had put it down at all. I think it was my 5th :P
I'm not sure how good the first chance thing is in general. I'd just say not to worry too much, and don't be disappointed if you don't get your first choice. Because they are all relatively similar at the end of the day. Just try to be happy with the all of the ones you put down on the list, as you could get any of them. And It's more the people you meet that matters

That's such a good idea ! I'm from Malaysia - and you ?
I think it depends because from what I've been reading (we're both so keen looking at how much we research hahaha) different agencies/people manage the complex? But its minimum twice a week. I saw some people hating it when they do clean as their stuff gets thrown around or moved but personal preference i guess.
Yes we have the same places in mind don't we ? Would be pretty amazing if we bumped into each other later on the year :~)

From my (Admittedly pretty extensive) Research, Theres a huge taboo about the distance to westwood. The rooms are the biggest, and its really cheap considering, but everyone I've talked to seems to make a big thing about it. I think its going to be something that you'll learn to live with, but centralised accommodation sounds better. Im looking at Tocil & Sherbourne, been accepted studying Business & Management.

Lucky you! Sounds like your flatmates are at least decent enough to live with :P One of my biggest fears is ending up with inconsiderate flatmates and being miserable because I am stuck with them for the entire year :frown: I am keeping my fingers crossed, hope I'll get flatmates like yours!

I am from Hong Kong!
I'm not sure about the management of the halls, but I might put Westwood at the bottom of my list just because of the hygiene problem LOL
Have you been to any halls in Warwick? I haven't been there before so I couldn't have a closer look - it would have helped massively! Picking accommodation basing off of photos and reviews is just a risky thing to do haha
Do you have a conditional or unconditional offer? Hopefully we will both get into Warwick! x

That's strange, I honestly don't see what's the big deal about the distance to Westwood! But I can imagine Westwood residents who are less outgoing are more likely to form a bubble/interact less with people from other halls. Big rooms are a plus, though. What other accommodation are you looking at?

I haven't heard of any cases like that at Warwick. I'm 95% sure you will get considerate flatmates that you can live with!
