Because in your period you are not clean. Its dirty. That is wjy we are supposed too wudu before praying and reading Quran.
If we pray or read when we arent clean, havent washed our urine and stool properly is also a sin. Because satan loves dirt.
And cleanliness is half of faith in Islam.

But why is a period dirty? I'm sorry I'm so clueless haha, I'm sorry if I sound ignorant

I don't have time to analyse every single fault in your speech except the last part in particular. It's not seen as a bad thing in the way you are thinking. Women are not allowed to pray or touch the Quran during menses but they may very well get the reward for it because they intended to pray/read Quran and Islam is all about intention.

Also any pain or discomfort a woman faces during a period/pregnancy is immediately counted as a good deed by God (the same applies to both genders) as described by the Prophet (peace and prayers upon him). So the more pain/discomfort -> More reward

I would understand if you get more reward if you are putting up with pain/discomfort for God - but you're not. The fact that you are a woman, and that you have periods, is circumstantial, even the most evil of women, have periods, it's a fact of life. If it's such a good deed and so highly rewarded, why is it that you're not allowed to read the Qu'ran at that time of the month because you're considered dirty?

Also, doesn't that technically put men at a disadvantage, since they don't get periods, and missing out on all the good deed points which women have? How would men experience discomfort and get more reward, through more circumstance perhaps?

It's not circumstantial for muslims. Muslims believe that all good comes from God and all bad (pain/problems/afflictions) comes from God and Muhammed (peace and prayers upon him) said that any discomfort/pain will be rewarded. He also mentioned that those who have not been afflicted by discomforts in this life (and have mainly been having a painfree life) will wish that they had gone through pain.

It's not a good deed in the conventional sense but the good deed lies in persevering and showing patience during that time. The point you made about "If it's such a good deed, then why can't you read Quran during that time?" has flawed logic. A man and wife making a child is considered a good deed but post-sex, neither of them can have their prayers deemed valid UNTIL they take a bath. Isn't praying a good deed? Doesn't matter. They are both unclean.

its not religion its common sense
I would be saying the same thing religion or no religion
during periods it feels horrible down there, icky and disgusting. If you dont feel that way then there's something wrong with u

You cray? Never said it was enjoyable.
I'm just saying that it's already bad on it's own without so many restrictions placed just because you're having your period.

Urine and s*** is also natural. Does it mean its not dirty

She can clean herself and make wudhu while on her period too. How is that any different? It's also unfair that blood is clearly considered worse and far more dirty than **** and piss. Whoever wrote quran must have hated women. :colonhash:

2. The average amount of blood lost during a period is 30-40 millilitres (ml). About 3 tablespoons. But yes, let's all behave like it's rivers instead of 3 tablespoons. Because being daft is fun isn't it.

3. I don't love them. I just understand that they are natural and necessary, therefore not something that needs to be feared/treated like it's a disease.

Quite frankly, most well adjusted men and women understand this, and therefore don't give a tiny rats ass because it's just a little blood.

It's not dirty. It's just sad that you have been taught think that. And the fact that it is found in other religions just shows that all religions hate women and will use any excuse to keep them down. "You're so dirty you can't touch our special magic book?" That's the type of hateful nonsense you could only find in religion.

Technically, your body slowly creates piss and **** too, so it is continuous in a way, and that argument appears invalid?

3 tablespoons?? loooool what the hell do you only use one pad you're entire period? My flow is really heavy, especially the frist 5 days it literally leaks out all the time.

It's not a disease it's that the blood is actually dirty.
You have to make wudhu if for example even you pick a scab and a significant amount of blood comes out and touches your skin you have to remake wudu, and for example when a guy ejaculates he has to remake wudhu etc and unclean to pray/read quran until he makes wudhu again. It's generally for when fluids comes out of your body doesn't necessarily mean it's "dirty", but in terms of periods the flow is constant and at the beginning it literally is dirty blood.

Don't be silly and just tell your mum that you are actually on, trust me honesty is the best and you may get a small shouting but don't do it again and Allah will forgive you. :frown:

oh my. I'm an ex muslim so I may sound biased but that just reminds me of how much unnecessary guilts I used to carry before leaving. You're in an environment that you are constantly watched over, from the looks of it.

I don't know how your mother is like personally, but I suppose as a Muslim (I hope) she would be a loving character who is also merciful (if she interprets the Quran that way) and she is also a woman so maybe communicating with her and being honest about it. She probably has experienced not being bothered religiously - like feeling bored at the mosque or not wanting to go to Madrassah. It is normal and happens to everyone at one point, even if they don't want to admit it.

bolded bit is true.
I hope so, honestly I swear down my mum has only comitted like one sin in her life :/ she's understanding but like she honestly I've never seen her skip things and even as a kid her parents didn't have anything bad to say about her.

You can't fake pray either. That is a major sin which people don't understand.

In regards to touching the Quran when you're on your menstrual, that is also a great sin.
You cannot touch the word of God in that state. And you won't get the same reward.

Do the right thing and tell your mother you lied. Yes she will shout at you for a bit but then she'll get over it quickly.

I know sometimes I don't pray and it's literally like the biggest sin, but I don't want *even more* sins by touching/reading the quran when im not supposed to that's all but imma tell my mum now.

Original post by Butternuts96
It's a bigger sin to miss prayers and lie to your parents.

:/ i know

Firstly, OP is the one frustrated, due to religion.

Secondly, don't act as if rejecting the idea of a magical being in the sky warrants an intelligent argument.

???not constructive.

If you fake pray, that makes you a hypocrite. Hypocrites have the lowest pit in the hellfire. People that did good deeds for show.

Do you believe in God?

Currently Facing an issue where I lied to my mum that I was on my periods so she would stop bugging me about praying 24/7 and waking me up in the morning.

Well we today she was like when are you gonna shower cause it's been ages (as in the special one to purify yourself after periods) n i was like Yh. Went to take a shower n I've genuinely started my periods so like err.

I know I can pretend to pray but the issue lies in: My mum makes us read Quran everyday (which is why she knows it's been 10 days) and you can't read on your period!! Idk what to do its a big sin to read the Quran on your period...

Remember that Allah is all-forgiving and all-merciful.
Remember that heaven lies at your mothers feet.
I think you know the right thing to do (and it will help you get a lot of guilt of your chest)
iA things go well

I'm just going to bet this thread has turned into Islam and religion-bashing and random people taking it over to argue about it.

yes.

Well...how about if you change your pad once in a while? Then you wouldn't feel so icky and disgusting. My period makes me feel a little uncomfortable, but other than that, it's really not that bad. Wear a tampon, and you forget about it. I don't feel dirty, unclean, unworthy of prayer on my period. Banned from my place of worship because I am a non-pregnant female. It's a shame that this is the mentality that your Allah puts on you.

There's a number of women who actually do miss their periods when going through menopause - it's their youth, their ability to have children etc.

What I find ironic is the amount of pressure put on women to get married and have children, and the men who marry young girls (the prophet himself), and yet, having your period - a sign that you are fertile and young - is seen as such a bad thing.

it's not a bad thing? it's good to have your period, have you seen the effects delaying a period has for example when using birth control pills etc? it's a natural process. also http://www.drashford.com/faq/q-do-periods-cleanse-the-body-of-toxins-if-i-dont-have-a-period-will-toxins-build-up/

It's not that I feel unworthy of prayer loool I'm glad I don't have to pray on my period it's a big ass break!! It's not the shame of not being pregnant that doesn't even come into it lmao bloody hell.
