They could ask things like

How roles between men and women have become more equal

The theories of the family (functionalism, Marxism, new right etc)

Family diversity

Just things like that really! How's your revision going?

outline and evaluate the contribution the family makes to society

This came up last year as a 33 marker, what does the answer require?
Hey guys, I'm retaking the g672 paper and I completely forgot how to answer the actual paper. In my school we only learn about the family so would be great help if someone could tell me how to answer the paper! Thanks, shuheb.

Okay so this is G671, I guess she's struggling with structure and content to include in her answer then.

Here's a structure she can follow:

8 Mark
You gain four marks for your definition and four marks for your examples. Make sure that you define the key term used in the question (underline/highlight the keywords in the question) and use as many other key words as you can to show that you understand the term. Make sure that you also include at least two examples, as with just one example you cannot gain the full four marks for examples.

16 Mark
It should take the form of two clear paragraphs, with each paragraph containing one point. You are being asked to explain two points, so make sure you do two - don't do one or three.

Twelve marks are given for your knowledge and understanding in this question, and you will need to include studies, concepts, theories or examples in each paragraph. You will get four marks for your answer being relevant and applied to the question; quite simply you need to ensure that your are answering the question.

24 Mark
This is the mini-essay. You will need an introduction, three/four points and a conclusion. If you are doing three points, make sure they are well explained. In this question, the use of studies and/or theory is pretty much a necessity to get a high mark.

Twelve marks are given for your knowledge and understanding in this question, and you will need to include studies, concepts, theories or examples for each of yours points. Eight marks are given for your answer being relevant and applied to the question, and four marks are given for your evaluation and analysis of the overall argument.

52 Mark
There are various ways to structure the 52 mark question, but here's one way to go about it.

First of all, you want to introduce your argument. That means that you will want to define the key concepts (so if the question is on ethnography, explain what an ethnography is in the pre-release). Your introduction can be brief, so don't spend too much time on it.

You want to cover four areas in your essay: reliability, validity, generalisability and representativeness. Within each of those areas, you will want to talk about the sample, method and data in the pre-release, and relate it back. So for example if you are talking about the reliability of a question talking about ethnography, you will start with a sentence that introduces reliability (the ability of being able to repeat the research and gain the same/similar results) and then apply that to the method - why the ethnographic method is or isn't reliable. Then you will want to (more briefly) apply reliability to the sample and data.

Here's a few videos she can watch for help with the content:Other resources:

If she already hasn't got a book, here's an online version of the a book

I highly recommend she gets this book (the best book available for G671)

Of course if she has anything else to ask then she can. I realised you said she's sitting these exams independently, so she can ask her exam center with help in order to get the pre-release. I remember my teacher telling me that there will no longer be a pre-release, not too sure on that though.

Hey, have you got a structure for the G672 paper, I'm retaking it and some help like this would be great

17 Mark

There's not much to this question. It's pretty relaxed in terms of structure, pretty generic and most of it is marked upon knowledge (12 marks = knowledge, 4 marks = application)

No intro needed.

Make sure you have two clear paragraphs, with each paragraph containing one point. Therefore two points in total.

As I mentioned most of this essay is marked to assess your knowledge so you must include studies, concepts, theories or examples in each paragraph. Also try and include two statistics in this answer, The application marks is just for the examiner to see if you are answer the question. So by using words like this shows/means/indicated/identifies/illustrates etc. shows the examiner that you are being relevant to the question and it would confirm your application marks.

Conclusion should be short summary of the two points discussed.

33 Mark

In your introduction you must define the terms used in the question. And briefly identify the points you are going to discuss in you essay. Also give two very brief examples which is linked to the word you should have defined. Statistics are very good for getting them easy and knowledge marks here.

For the main body of your essay you should do three paragraphs focusing on the stronger side of your argument and three smaller paragraphs for the evaluating part of your essay.

First paragraph focus on a perspective this could be for or against depending on what the question is and which side you ae supporting more (so writing the most about). Second paragraph should be a small evaluation. The third paragraphs should be like the first and the fourth like the second. And the same goes for the fifth and sixth paragraph. Your evaluative paragraphs are opposing the view of the pervious paragraph but still including the studies/theories/statistics etc. as a normal paragraph would.

Another structure you could use for the main body of the essay is using the structure of doing all three paragraphs (stronger side of the argument) then the evaluative paragraphs. This way you can get away with only two evaluation paragraphs but you may risk the chance of losing evaluation marks.

I recommend the first structure as that way if you're in an exam and running out of time, because you have embed evaluation throughout you will not lose marks for the evaluation, also the essay flows better that way.

Conclusion needs to state which argument are you supporting. How have other social factors like ethnicity, age, gender, social class have an impact on what's being asked in the question. Right at the end summarise what your essay states in a sentence.

Hope this has helped. Had to type it up twice cos it crashed! :h:
for the 8markers I guess it will be culture, multiculturalism or high culture. Those havent be chosen yet.

For multiculturalism you can discuss the celebration of a range of ethnically/diverse festivals (Christmas, Easter etc)
Reply 33
Multiculturism- Parekh (2006) similar to cultural diversity. Others view it as different ethnic groups living side by side in society. It is seen to promote belief that ethnic groups are of the same status. Barker (2003) said it was a way to celebrate difference

Culture-
A concept to describe beliefs and customs of a group within society. However it is often a contested concept- hard to define. Williams (2003) described it as a way of life. It is socially constructed. It involved learning norms and values as Woodward described it as based on sharing values
