Hello and welcome to the National 5 Physics Exam Discussion Thread. On this thread, you can discuss any questions regarding the upcoming exam and predictions on what questions can come up etc. It'd be great if anyone posts revision sources that they use to revise. Please post any questions you have and someone will always reach out to help you! What does everyone think the open ended questions will be?

Here is a compiled playlist that are hopefully useful for you guys. Most of the "Intro" videos are quite good and cover basically everything in Nat 5, ignore most of the other videos unless you think its relevant.

Hey guys! Haven't seen a thread yet for National 5 Physics so thought I'd make one. How is everyone getting on with the course and what area's do you struggle on? Got any tips or advice for the exam? The exam is only a week and a half away

Finally a Nat 5 Physics Thread, THANK YOU.

I too was looking for it everywhere and couldn't find one! How's your revision going for physics?

I really enjoy physics and I have been using the website http://mrmackenzie.co.uk/ as revision. My revision is going pretty well but I sometimes find questions that I do not understand from each topic. I enjoy Energy + Electricity the most

Oh thanks for the website, that will be very helpful. Haha unlike you, I HATE electricity and energy and do not understand it at ALL, it's the topic I struggle with the most! I enjoy Dynamics and Space and Waves and Radiation the most! Can you give an example of the type of questions you struggle with?

I find the Nuclear section of waves and Radiation quite difficult as we had a sub teacher for that topic :frown:

Dynamics and Space I find the projectile and cosmology section the ,most difficult

What do you do as revision that could help me ?

Feeling confident about waves and radiation & electricity and energy. Less confident about dynamics and space. Physics isn't my strongest subject but if I work at it enough, hopefully I'll get an A. I'm not taking it next year for higher.

What techniques do you use to study ?

I quite like using flashcards on my phone to remember things and just doing questions, our school gives us big workbooks called tutorials to do, our teacher says if we can do every question from our tutorials then we will easily get an A. Also past papers including the standard grade ones. We finished the course at the beginning of February so we got a lot of study time in class.

Does anyone know if we need to know the range of wavelengths and frequencies? For example, radiowaves have a wavelength of 10^2 and gamma rays have a wavelength of 10^-13. Do we need to know that for each wave on the electromagnetic spectrum?

I guess not as we were never taught that and I have never done any questions about that in class.

Same, I use that website.

I done well in the prelim, But I don't feel too confident for the exam tho lol. I just finished revising the whole of Unit 3 using that website, gonna answer some past paper questions on it then hopefully revise the rest of the units.

Nah you shouldn't need to.
Okay I have asked this before but I just need to make sure. All Calculations final answers are rounded to 3 significant figures, am I right ?
This is where I lost most of the marks in my prelim

Yes, I think so.

Omg I did not know this!!! WTH?!?! WTF?! LOL

Can someone give me an example of rounding to 3 sig figs, i know it's a stupid question but i need a reminder haha :colondollar:

Does anyone know how to do Question 4 MC in the National 5 2014 Physics paper? I don't understand the question at all! To find out the gravitational potential energy I do 1.00 - 0.25 then do 0.50 x 9.8 x 0.75 and it gives me 3.7 as the answer which is correct however the correct answer is C which gives kinetic energy as 3.7j and the GPH as 1.2?!?! I am SO confused. Someone with a brain please tell me how to do that question it's driving me mad!!!!
And also Q8 on the National 5 2014 Physics MC paper. 1/8 is 0.125 so why is the correct answer C i.e 125?!?!?! URGH :frown:

That is rather odd, 0.125 is the correct answer.
