Cultural Appropriation

I've just seen an example of cultural appropriation

They are singing the Panzerlied, a German military song dating back to 1933. Apparently, it is very popular in Chile, and adapted by military units in French, Italian and Korea.

Outrageous! Racist! Triggering!

The song was first popularised in the film The Battle of the Bulge, and later (instrumentally) in the anime Girls und Panzer

This is an American film, and thus yet another example of cultural appropriation.

They'd be pleased to see German culture being spread globally - they hated 'degenerate' music

Its also not really a Nazi song

I read recently in The Times about the controversy surrounding a Cambridge College 'African' cusisine event.

From what I gathered from the incoherent objections voiced by various pompous Cambridge societies, the self-evidently humourous event was opposed to due the exclusive incorporation of stereotypical elements of African cuisine .

@nulli tertius

This seems to me a ludicrous reason to kick up a fuss and I would be grateful of some clarification

That's not cultural appropriation, unless you are suggesting rape is integral to white culture?

Sweden has no culture (according to Mona Sahlin, the former leader of the governing SDP party)

Finland is really a part of Sweden

Therefore Finland has no culture to appropriate

Many Cambridge students turn to virtue signalling to make themselves feel better about their privileged positions
