German government plans to spend 93.6 billion euros on refugees by end 2020

Germany's government expects to spend around 93.6 billion euros by the end of 2020 on costs related to the refugee crisis, a magazine said on Saturday, citing a draft from the federal finance ministry for negotiations with the country's 16 states.

The figure is likely to stoke concerns, particularly among growing anti-immigration movements, on the impact of new arrivals on Europe's largest economy which took in more than a million people last year, many from Syria and other war zones.

The numbers arriving have fallen this year, helped by a deal between the European Union and Turkey that was designed to give Turks visa-free travel to Europe in return for stemming the flow of migrants.

German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel said the finance ministry's calculations included the costs for accommodating and integrating refugees as well as tackling the root causes for people fleeing from crisis-stricken regions.

Officials based their estimates on 600,000 migrants arriving this year, 400,000 next year and 300,000 in each of the following years, the report said, adding that they expected 55 percent of recognized refugees to have a job after five years.

A spokesman for the finance ministry declined to comment on the figures but pointed to ongoing talks between the government and states, saying they would meet again on May 31 to discuss how to divide up the costs between them.

The report said that 25.7 billion euros ($29.07 billion) would be needed for jobless payments, rent subsidies and other benefits for recognized asylum applicants by the end of 2020.

Another 5.7 billion euros would be needed for language courses and 4.6 billion euros would be required for measures to help migrants get jobs, it added.

The annual cost of dealing with the refugee crisis would hit 20.4 billion euros in 2020, up from around 16.1 billion euros this year, the report said.

The federal government and the states are at odds over the costs of the refugee crisis and how much Berlin should pay out.

Germany's states have long complained they cannot cope with the refugee influx and related costs and the report in Der Spiegel said states expected to face costs of 21 billion euros this year, rising to around 30 billion euros per year by 2020.

It said the states expected the federal government to bear half of the costs related to refugees but added that the federal finance ministry thinks Berlin is already shouldering more than that and does not think the states' calculations are justified.

So, according to the states, the total cost will be in fact €141 billion till 2020 (30bn a year for four years plus 21bn this year).

The German taxpayer must be delighted...

Are the Muslim countries helping us? So much for brotherhood and charity, sending them all to Europe instead of opening the borders.

If these countries won't even let Muslim refugees in what do you think they think about us kafirs?

Such a waste of money - of tax payers' money.

This is why taking in those financial migrants should be something the populous can vote on. I'm not happy with my money being pissed away on them.
This represents around a third of Germany's overall government spending budget (FOR EVERYTHING) for 2015.

Only way this could be a sound plan is if we intended to educate them and send them back to the Middle East and put them in positions of power.

Oh yes, i've got it all planned out.

The difference is that the states will bear most of the cost. They say that the real cost will be 141 billion on five years.

Note that the €93.6bn prediction relies on the hypothesis that 55% of the migrants will have found a job by 2020...

It's also interesting to know that the German government is planning to integrate them, whilst - if they had been real refugees - they should have gone back once the war is over.

With 141 billion, the German government could have created a natalist policy, or build a real army, but they are so frightened that these policies would have been considered "nazi" that they have chosen instead to import a demographic burden for several generations.

55% ???? The unemployed % of UK muslims is almost 65% and we're talking about a population that's been there for at least 2 generations. Western european politicians are out of their minds, the change has to come from the ''bottom'' through voting and social media (no wonder it's being censored more and more each day..). I just hope the change isn't too far to the right... it shouldn't take a neo-nazi to see that some ''cultures'' are completely incompatible with 21st century Europe. The silent majority has to say enough is enough at some point.

The German government is now all in with this insane plan and the German people will want not only their money back but their democracy and public safety.

This could very likely turn into a civil war within the next 2-3 years.

German civil war?

Yes, the refugees + traitors + the establishment against everyone else.

Germans are terrified of standing up for themselves, because of the guilt over the Nazis

The only chance of a popular revolt is through the ballot paper, by electing the AfD

Most of them yes, but I posit that a large proportion of AfD supporters don't feel this way.

Didn't we try that with some African countries?

Working on it

Makes sense though, we'd avoid the humanitarian crisis of letting these people die, solve the issue of radical Islam by teaching them liberal ideas and sending them back home, and ensure loyalty to our European countries by assimilating them so Europe is part of their national identity, that way the countries in the Middle East will be better allies to our interests.

Everyone wins.

Individuals who can strengthen the middle Eastern economy, less corruption and finally as you said less terrorist groups.............BUT our governments are too stupid.
Fantastic. These people need help, and they're giving it to them. If I were a German taxpayer, I would be delighted.

Our governments are definitely too stupid, there's a real opportunity for change here, and not just in Europe, it's the best chance we have to change the whole of bloody Asia.

If we really wanted to rock the boat we could point out how countries like Germany allow them to practice their religion while the Gulf states oppress them, for example by denying them refuge in times of war and shutting down mosques that disagree with certain sects.

It's time to stop being victims of radical Islam, and start being exponents of 'radical' Islam

Damn straight, i know many muslims also agree that the West needs to take action against ISIL and the middle East problem and the Refuge problem is a huge opportunity to do so .

Poverty and ignorance are the breeding grounds for Radicalism just as it was for Communism.......but alas our governments would rather ignore the problem and beat around the bush.
