In AQA:
Section 1 you get two questions on an essay or theme.
Section 2 you get an extract and a contextual question and you have to answer both

In CIE you only have to answer one question about your Drama text. And you only get 45 minutes!

The other papers are poetry and you choose one out of two poems. It could be on any of the 14 that we have to study. Also a 45 minute question.

We also have a choice of an essay or extract question on our prose which is also 45 minutes.

And finally, a 1h15min unseen paper which is a choice of a poem or extract of prose that you have never studied and you don't know what it is.

We also have another poem paper but we have to answer a 36 mark question comparing seen poems then an 18 mark question on an unseen.

I really really doubt (and hope) that there will not be an Edna question. She is not relevant enough, there would not be enough to write 'insightfully' and 'exploratory' about her.

Seems like some thought Edna would come up two years ago too...

I guess so. I'm choosing the character question regardless.
Does nayone know what the question was on last year?? (AQA)
Attachment not found

This was from last year's higher tier literature paper which just got published on the AQA website yesterday. I think the theme question on this is pretty difficult, I'd much rather answer the one on Mr Birling.

Any predictions for the character question for An Inspector Calls?

for the aqa exam board, it is most likely to be either sheila or gerald as they havent come up in like ages

Hope everyone who did their Inspector Calls today did well xxx

How did you find it?
Original post by abc_123_
I found it okay I'm AQA and chose a question about conflict xx
How did you find it? x

Same, and I picked that question as well. Did you mention language techniques because I think I forgot to talk about that, also what were our points
Original post by abc_123_
I wrote that there was a nuanced conflict between the ideas of Capitalism, Isolationism and Economic Individualism (represent by Arthur Birling) and the ideas of Economic Individualism and Socialism (represented by the Inspector) and compared the two speeches made by Arthur Birling (at the beginning) and the Inspector (at the end). I mentioned that Arthur Birling displayed hubris and filled his speech with conjecture due to dramatic irony (e.g. Titanic is unsinkable) whereas the Inspector has a well thought out speech and uses alliteration and tricolons (millions and millions and millions of Eva Smiths...) to show that Socialism was a more thought out plan.
Then I said that there was a conflict between the proletariat (e.g. Edna) and the bourgoise (e.g. Birlings) and that the proletariat are struggling to find a voice in Edwardian Britain shown by Edna's lack of appearance in the play and that she says the eponymous line "please, sir, an inspector's called" showing that the inspector represents people like Edna and the fact that she calls Arthur "sir" shows she is subordinate (conflict between classes)
Final point was conflict between women in their own class fighting for a voice in a patriarchal society (e.g. Mrs Birling says she'll have to get used to it when Gerald is away all summer showing how voiceless women were in Edwardian society and so they have a lot to gain in post-war Britain xx
What did you write?
Also what do you do for your other set text? x

Wow your answer sounds amazing. I dont think mines as good as yours.

I talked about how it follows the form of a morality play. However it doesnt hold the christian views that would usually be in a morality play. These views are also held in a capitalist system, I kinda said how Priestley did this to show Socialism breaking away from capitalism, and related this to the capitalism vs socialism theme

I talked about Gender. Sheila has been exposed to the unpleasantries of life, she kinda adopted the Inspectors sarcasm as well as other aspects of his personality. With this she becomes more outspoken, so we as reader now see how she and the other men are equal in terms of their position in society.

Then I talked about the Inspector and Mr Birling and the personality "hard headed" man = no morals, doesnt let sentiment get in the way. Inspector Goole = purposefullness, solidity and something else cant remember sorry. The two personalities are similar in some aspects but due to their opposing views shows how they butt heads.
I did Of mice and Men for my other text

If you feel as though I wrote anything which doesnt seem plausible please tell x
