Is this the aqa sociology exam or ocr? If it's the aqa Out of 90 how many marks for a C?

I think as a whole the exam was easy.
But I'm still beating myself up about the things I got wrong. Like the Social Mobility question; idk how I forgot about meritocracy. Instead I made up a whole load of bull about how scholarships can encourage social mobility in schools. That's 5 marks gone. Then I also kinda messed up on the families 12 markers about socialisation. Shouldve chosen the other one. Oh well, still got thursdays exam...

Aahhh same, I managed to answer every other question except for the Government policy (1997 New Labour) and the education essay I did poorly, didn;t finish it and the explanation was pretty poor. Hopefully, I'll get 65-70/90
wbu?

surprisingly, From last year 70 was an A*, whilst 62 was an A. I'd expect it to go up though maybe 75A* and 64-68 for an A

Thank you

Despite the many stupid silly errors, I don't think I did terribly bad to the point where I feel depressed; I think I probably did good enough to get around 63-70 approx. Hopefully I do better on unit 2, which is impossible. :frown:

Ah I know what you mean, I feel exactly like that. Unit 2 is really kicking me. In my mock on both Unit 1 and Unit 2 last week I got an A* but that was a fairly easy paper. I've only been doing this course for 8 months too

Guys you know for the five mark about previous policies that helped people to stay in educational achievement would i get any marks for talking about EMAs helping materially and financially deprived children ??? I mentioned that it wasn't successful because people may have spent it on things other than stationary and stuff for school - at this point in the exam my mind was drained so i chatted nonsense but is this a valid point

I hope so because that's what I wrote, I was just blabbering on, thankfully i remember what it stood for (education maintenance allowance, and spoke about the same things as you

that can't be right. However, teachers can access the paper after 24 hours so then they can make an educated guess as to grade boundaries, but it ultimately depends on the distribution of how everyone did, if the majority did good then high grade boundaries, likewise if they did bad then low grade boundaries. C is usually something like 46-48/90.

social mobility woah, i don't recall this, do you remember what the question said because i don't remember anything about social mobility

So glad with that paper today! I was expecting there to be some horrible questions. Other than a few things that I could have added to the social mobility 5 mark question I felt pretty confident with all the other questions. Hopefully Paper 2 on Thursday goes smoothly too...
I dont think the grade boundaries are going to be that high, considering that this is the last year of this specification. The exam boards need to show that the grades are getting better each year therefore the exam grade boundaries will probably be more lower - just and educated guess.

Guys the paper was okay., but question

You see for education 12 marker I picked the first one where you had to speak about educational achievement

I spoke about the diferent school types pupils attend

And for against i spoke about gender/ethnicity

Is this wrong?

Not sure if Im completely right but for 12 markers you're supposed to talk about 2 different sociological perspectives and what they believe, for example I spoke about how marxists believe that education enforces the class system and how they believe that ethnic minorities & working do worse at education because they tend to be materially deprived and how they are labelled at school leading to the self fulfilling prophecy...... not sure if it's right though

that is exactly my theory behind why they would make the exams 'easier'/lower the grade boundaries. yet, everyone i asked thinks they would make them harder/ higher the grade boundaries, which makes no sense because the whole reason of the 9-1 specification is to be hard, so by making these exams 'easy' it'll show improvement. alternatively, they could just higher the grade boundary for a C higher and A* lower..... just guessing though

Omg what I talked about free school meals would that be correct?

I think you are wrong. I checked my revision guides, and there isn't anything talking about that. Hopefully i am wrong xD I aint very smart, but because the test was easy, i feel smart ;-;
lol me too i messed up that questiion saying schools encouraged children but some came from fatalist backgrounds but in general i think studying society was pretty easy

I don't know if our teacher is smoking weed or something, but C is usually about half the marks together from both papers. My teacher even told me that, and he is very good at teaching sociology. It may be high though this year, because they base it on the how everyone in the country did (idk if just country)

Nah, it would make sense it they made the grade boundaries higher if it was an easy paper. Otherwise, too many people would get high grades, and what they do is base what everyone in the country/countrys got and usually form a mark scheme from that. The same with a hard paper. Too many people would get low grades so they have to make the mark scheme lower.
