i agree, both 24m were worded very weirdly. i had to read the first 24m like 10 times till i realised it was talking about division of labour
I think it went well!

All the short mark questions were great and simple

The 24 marker on couples was a god-send.

However, the 24 markers on diversity caught me off guard :frown: And i only had about 15 minutes left when i started it so i had no time to plan making my essay a bit jumbled up.

WHY IS THE EXAM ONLY AN HOUR LONG FFSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Questions in case anyone forgot:

1. Define what is meant by the term 'dependency ratio'. (2)
2. Give two explanations for why lone-parent families are headed by women (4)
3. Give three reasons for the fall in death rate since the 1900s (6)
4. Examine the view that couples' roles and relationships are becoming more equal today. (24)
5. Using Item 2B, assess the view that traditional family functions are being undermined by family diversity (24)

I completely forgot what the dependency ratio was and was practically pulling my hair out! So frustrating
Both 24 markers were good; I felt somewhat confident besides forgetting bloody names and dates/mixing them

You all doing the 24th May SCLY2?

Omg that was suchh a good 2 marker, they normally give you ones that are really confusing.

Don't bother learning dates! You honestly don't need to know them - unless you're comparing statistics in a given year compared to statistics today.
I'm retaking SCLY2 on Tuesday 24th May at 9am.
I got an A in the families paper last year and a C in the education paper last year. I'm currently sat on a B in terms of UMS at AS Level and I want to increase that by hopefully doing better in the education paper

Has anyone's teacher predicted what will come up this paper?

I have a feeling that social class might come up as the 20 marker. Personally, I don't think government policies will come up this year as it came up last year

Not enough. Should have started earlier, but oh well, it's my only exam in May so I can focus purely on it. On the downside, I have 7 exams in June 🔫

What grades did you get last year in sociology??

Low B's in both hence why I retook/retaking both
Pretty sure I failed the exam today so need to do well on unit 2

At least you have a B from last year in that families exam so it's not the end of the world tbh. I'm praying the education paper is nice, there's not too many topics to revise but they are just so bulky which is annoying

Examine the view that couples' roles and relationships are becoming more equal today. (24)

Wasn't it just a division of labour question masked with the improvement of women's position?

My paragraphs were

1. Women now have more opportunities this work more and cannot do all the housework ; evaluation: dual burden
2. Commercialisation of housework and technology advancement makes women work less so they can pursue their own interests like men
3. The idea of the 'new man' means childcare is divided and they fulfil roles once women were forced to such as child rearing and cleaning; evaluation; men do little domestic work compared to women and tend to do masculine related housework like fixing computers
4. Financial sharing e.g. Pooling which I linked to the fact that working women who earned more tend to have equal amounts of responsibility on their finances like men
5. Evaluation: radical feminists - couples and relationships never equal because of patriarchy and difference in physical power

I only used one sociologist but I've seen many top marked essays with no sociologists.

Did I do it wrong?

For the examine Q I put arguments for and against

Is this correct?

My paragraphs were:

- men and women both work - symmetrical family - young and willmott so do equal amounts of house work and paid work and also spend their leisure time together

-then in my second paragraph I critisised young and willmott view by Oakley and edgells studies. Saying how women still do most of housework and child care

-i then spoke about decesion making and how women make more decesions now but they tend to be minimal ones e.g. what to get for shopping, even though men make big decesions such as about cars, houses etc. I used edgells study to back this up.

-i then did a paragraph on emotional work and dumncomb and Marsden study on it and how men are still ignorant to emotional duties within a family/couple.

Would this answer be any good?
