AQA Biology Six Marker

All it says in the spec about healthy diets is the following:

"A healthy diet contains the right balance of the
different foods you need and the right amount
of energy. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are
used by the body to release energy and to build
cells. Mineral ions and vitamins are needed in
small amounts for healthy functioning of the body.
A person is malnourished if their diet is not
balanced. This may lead to a person being
overweight or underweight. An unbalanced diet
may also lead to deficiency diseases or conditions
such as Type 2 diabetes."

I revised from the spec, and this is basically what I said, but I know I'm not gonna get 6 marks because we were supposed to go into more detail, even though it literally says on the spec:

"Knowledge and understanding of the specific functions
of nutrients and the effects of any deficiency in the diet
is not required."

Can someone prove me wrong plz thanks

I literally did not look over any of that sh*t because I thought it wouldn't come up in the exam at all, let alone as a 6 marker

I don't think the question asked that personally. I could go on about health consequences associated with things (basically what you pasted from the spec) and I think many others could. I just mentioned certain food groups e.g protein, carbohydrates, lipids etc then talked about what the two bullet points asked. For example, protein builds muscle tissue, repairs cells etc.

I think I got the snail questions wrong about the woodland snail, aparently it's camouflage but I somehow went on about how they were a dark colour so they absorb more heat :argh:

Basically, that exam was a big ol mess.

You haven't even answered the question, you were supposed to talk about individual components and their importance. for example...

water for respiration

fibre for bowel movements

etc...
I though the six marker was alright, I was so happy when it came up ! but I was disappointed that nothing about hormones and the menstrual cycle came up because I revised that thoroughly :colonhash:

Nah your wrong. The question asked for individual components. Components equals the different food groups.
Besides, the textbook does not mention about fibre or anything.

Just checked the specification: It only mentions fibre in b3..and in the diet specification, nothing to do with fibre. So yeah...don't discourage others.

PLEASE tell me where it talks about this in the biology spec. They have to quote from the spec, and I did answer the questions because it was about a the components of a healthy diet, I just didn't go into much detail.

The purpose of GCSE's isn't to turn you not a spec reciting robot, they are too give you the knowledge you need to draw your own conclusions, so it may of not of said it in the spec, but if your thought about it, using the knowledge you know, such as respiration and digestion, then it was not very hard at all.

Have you even looked at the spec, both fibre and water are considered as 2 components of a balanced diet??

I think this is what aqa and the government are trying to change.

They want students to be able to think.
This question is where food tech came in handy

You dont use water in respiration....
Its to maintain the constant body temperature of 37^c

How many marks do you think i got for:

Protein- growth and repair of cells e.g. after intense exervixe
Water- chemical reactions requires water, prevents cells form shovelling up, prevents dehydration.
Fat- act as energy store
Carbs- release of energy over long period of time.
