Should Elsa have a prince/princess?

This hashtag was trending on Twitter earlier this month, with many people calling for Disney to make Elsa gay in the upcoming sequel to the movie Frozen. Almost immidiately a petition was started for it.

But as always in America, the religious right quickly made their own petition against it claiming it's a children's movie and would it 'ruin' the innocence of young kids.

Now personally, I don't really think Elsa should have a love interest of any kind. If Disney wishes to pursue lgbt themes in future movies they can do so in their own time. It shouldn't be something that's forced by the public. In the end it's up to the directors and producers.

What does the public think? Is it a good idea for animated children's films to have lgbt characters? Is it a step forward for society?

Bad idea
If the film makers decided of their own accord to have a LGBT character, then that's something else. But the fact that people are going out to petition to pressure them into doing so I disagree with. They are attempting to politicise a child's film ffs
They should not make her gay in anyway!
If it was the case, they'd have to flag it as a Sexual/Pornographic movie.

Let cartoons stay as cartoons.

How exactly does that make it pornographic if there's no actual pornography in the movie?

Yeah I agree. It's a U rated childrens film ffs why they gotta put some ******** political spin on it, if you want to bully a producer into it pick something that'll reach an audience who understands instead of dribbling 5 year old :erm:

I don't care about her sexuality either way but I agree that it's better that she's single or at least that her relationship isn't the focus of the new film. That's part of what makes her stand out from the others the fact that her story was more about self-discovery.

I think she should just stay single in the next movie. Has there not been a same sex couple in disney films? If they do decide to make Elsa homosexual I think its because that they wanted to not just some other people wanted it.

Timon and pumba I'm guessing?
No. No. No. And I'll say it again, no. Isn't it funny that majority of people who support this are gay ADULTS? People do realize its a Disney movie directed to children right? Kids do not come out the womb thinking stuff like that. Most of the people who want this think turning a character who is supposed to teach family values into a LGBT representative is "education". So I guess Elsa not having a man by the end of the movie = hardcore lesbian. Am I right? I'm surprised Princess Merida (redhead who shot arrows) wasn't classified as a lesbian.

If people want a gay character, how about leave kids out of the equation and create their own? Its not even about children anymore. Disney is not going to do it. Want to know why? They create movies for people who will fill their pockets with money. Do you think Disney is going to risk losing money to please gay ADULTS who barely represent 10% of the audience who watch movies in a kids movie that parents pay for? No. Sorry for my rant.

Savage
I think it would be great for kids who think they are gay/lesbian at a young age as it will make them understand that what they are feeling is normal, it would be great for the LGBT+ community. However I don't think disney will do it because they care about money and homophobes will hate it and complain:s-smilie:

It's essentially saying that as a woman, her identity is defined by her relationship.

She should remain single, she's already a strong character who, and shoulnd't be cheapened to some political gimmick.
It would certainly help to get children to understand more about homosexuality which seems to be a massive taboo nowadays amongst children. The fact that its causing controversy highlights the intolerance we have in society, we're not liberal enough to embrace thingslike this

I sort of agree with what you two are saying, I don't have a problem with them making her gay or having LGBT people in Disney films. Nor do I think her being a lesbian would "corrupt" the children. However I do have a problem with people trying to disrupt or hijack the creative process of someone elsa's (lol) art for their own political reasons.
The "public" should stop being so entitled and expecting film-makers to make what they want them to make, as opposed to what the makers themselves want to make.

I dunno about all of that but can Disney make that girl who does the flawless Elsa cosplay, Anna Faith Carlson, gay & in love with me?
