Unoffical Mark scheme for C1 AQA 2016

It would help if you could link answers to questions as i cant remember them

Questions:

1) a)Asked to work out gradient of a tangent, m= - 5/3 [2]
b)Asked to find co-ordinates of B B( - 3,4) [3]
c)Asked to find K K= - 30 [2]

2) a) simplify (3√5)^2 = 45 [2?]
b) i cant remember the question but the answer was 75 - 32√5 [5]

3) a) y=(x-7/2)^2 - 41/4
b) min value = -41/4
c) Translation of (1/2 , 41/4)

4) a) show that (x+3) was a factor of x^3 - 5x^2 -8x + 48, p(-3) = 0, (x+3) is a factor of p(x).
b) three linear factors of p(x) = (x+3)(x-4)(x-4)
c) find remainder when p(x) was divided by (x+2) R=20
d) Factorise p(x) using (x+2) R = (x-2)(x^2-3x+14) + 20 [3]

5) a) asked to find equation of circle (x-5)^2+(y+3)^2=65 (note 65 = r^2) [3]
b) asked to find co-ordinates of B (AB is diameter) B ( 12, -7) [2]
c) asked to find equation of tangent at A 7x-4y+18=0 [5]
d) asked to find length of CT = 9 [2]

6) a) y=-32x-40
b)Q(-5/4) [1]
c) upside down positive graph passing through y axis at 8 [2]
d) x = -1±√5

7) a) i think there was 4 parts to this question i cant remember part a and b
b)
c) definite integral = 81/4 [5]
d) area of shaded region = 45/4 [3]

8) a) cant remember anything except the answers were k>6 and k<-3/2

Answers that need a question to be assigned to
- k=4 and k=20
- d^2y/dx^2= - 2x - 9x^2 sub in x-coord of p to get 45, 45>0 therefore minimum

I think Q=(-5/4) was part of question 7 because I remember 6bii being the k=4 one

What was the question for k=4 and k=20?

giant quadratic one

like there was -80 in there somewhere when simplified, all I remember is:

I think a =2, b = k+4 c = 4(k-2)

Its root 64

no

Wait, are we 100% positive the first question asked for a parallel line? I could have sworn it said perpendicular and gave 5/3 as my gradient...

100% parallel
2a was only one mark

I put the answers for q3 as decimals how many marks you reckon I'd lose?

You're given the midpoint of AB which is C (the centre of the circle) then just put values into midpoint of a line and rearrange for the coords of B

The equation for 2b was (35)^2 + 2√5 / 7+3√5.

Is 6b supposed to be 7b? I'm pretty sure Q was part of the integration question.

I feel like the differentiation may have been 7a? Wasn't there a question that started differentiated? That may have been Q4.

Are you sure for question 4 b it said 3 linear factors not 2? Because I put it in 2 linear factors and I'm sure that's what it said to do not 3

One was 3 linear factors (x+3)(x-4)(x-4) and the other was 2 linear factors.
6a was 4 marks I think, you had to find dy/dx then sub it in.

The question almost definitely asked for 3 linear factors
ANYONE WITH GENERIC QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK ON THE GENERAL FORUM AT http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4077801.

Before you ask, check if it is answered before on this, that (or another) forum. This forum is specifically for the mark scheme, and discussion around marks etc only.
You remember what question 6 asked?
Has anyone remembered question 8 yet?

Hi everyone, I'm pretty sure I've got almost everything correct but for the length of CT, I stupidly left it as root 81 instead of 9. Do you think they may allow it in the mark scheme as normally it says OE (or equivalent) and root 81 is equivalent to 9!

Thanks
I figured out the coordinates of B using vectors :P. Too used to doing C4, just hoping that this tricky C1 test doesn't reflect how difficult they plan on making C3/4. (Doing full A-Level this year)

No, unfortunately you are expected to give things in the simplest form.

Does anyone remember how much of Q1 would be screwed up by giving the wrong gradient for 1a? I think every other answer I gave on the paper was correct, but I'm genuinely panicking about this one. I don't remember even doing Q1, which says it all really...
