UK student looking at Canada for study - what is financial aid like?

Hello!

I am looking at study in Canada, thanks to the possibility of the UK gov allowing universities to charge whatever they like, meaning 2017 students rack up stupid debts.

I have looked at Canada, and fees are around £9000 for THREE years of study, immediately saving £18k. I don't need assistance in terms of tuition.

I will need assistance with accommodation and living expenses. My question is, does anyone know what financial aid is like for International students in Canada?

Many thanks for your help!

For some odd reason, Birmingham Uni have compiled a really useful guide to the Canadian student funding system:

Go figure.

You basically need to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to qualify. As in the UK, there is no immediate right to student funding for international students.
