can someone explain how the answer here concludes with "hence 2x + y = 5"

I don't see it, I'm fine with every step until that

The wording is misleading, it's not "hence", it's just:

You have x and y in terms of u and v and the question gives you 2x+y=52x+y = 5 so replace x and y with their functions of u and v to get an equation which you can then simplify to show is a circle.

i.e: you're given 2x+y=5 and not derived it. You want to show that 2x+y is transformed to a circle.
