Men are the oppressed.

Maybe if you social conservatives weren't so worshipping of traditional ideas of masculinity very few of these would exist as problems.
Blaming women and or/feminism just shows a complete lack of self-awareness.

Yep, everything that happens to men that's bad could be prevented if they'd just ****ing lose their entire personalities and identities and morph themselves into something they find uncomfortable. Needy, whiney "nice guys" get all the girls, right? Male suicide is obvs going up because the social identity they've had forever is suddenly toxic to them.

In other news, if women just changed their behaviour maybe they wouldn't get raped. Stupid bitches it's entirely their fault. Or is this reasoning only applicable in positions you support?

Wow so 9 points (most of which are caused because of men themselves) mean that you are the oppressed sex? And you wonder why people can't take "meninists" seriously? :h:

Wow. You literally won the internet award for stupid comment

I've heard this exact argument from people who call themselves "meninists". The fact that you are siding with an argument which you yourself have called a "joke and not meant to be taken seriously" shows how the original post and the people who are defending it are unbelievably stupid.

I'm a male rights activist. Different thing.

Are you stupid? Meninism was a joke created by people who dislike feminism it didn't come first.

Meninism is as daft and silly as saying Muslamic. It's actually minism for males.

Seriously though...

Feminine
Masculine

Feminism
Masculism

I would guess no?

Turns out it exists: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masculism

Meninism is unpronounceable.

This is something I was talking about recently to a friend. How do we define masculinity these days? On which basis is it measured?

I think it depends on your age. Young people equate masculinity with the number of sexual partners and that's to the hyped up media and its increasing emphasis on living in a sexualised society. Americanised values have shifted into culture. Models, looking good, porn even. Masculinity should be about responsibility in my opinion. But thats my old school thinking coming in to play here.

But I feel you. I feel opressed sometimes. In more ways than one.
Whilst I agree that men are discriminated against in certain aspects of society*, I have a few issues with some of the labels being used in this conversation:

Feminists are striving not to be sexist, they quite like the idea of equality

People who refer to themselves as feminists and are sexist are called FEMINAZIS and it would be great if people would stop referring to them as feminists

The correct term for a group of people who discriminate against someone based on gender is sexist NOT feminist

*e.g. "man up","man flu", and many more including society's reaction to male rape vs. female rape
when they think meninists is a serious thing.
when they think the gender pay gap is real.
when they think women are the real victims of war.
when they think there are less women in stereotypical man jobs because of discrimination.
when they think they are less privileged.
when every feminist says they get catcalled but then you realise most of them look like this.

The trouble is that many 'feminists' will claim to be all for men's rights too but the reality is quite different. They label themselves feminists yet shout and scream about how women have life worse, ignoring the fact that men are genuinely oppressed in many areas in a serious way. I can call myself anything I want but it doesn't make it true. Far too many women are happy to cry sexism but will happily accept when things favour them at the expense of men. Just stumbled upon this but it's actually infuriating to watch as a man.

Again, quite irritating to watch how women will giggle at quite serious issues:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Whs4cuSBw

Female presenter : "Do you have a girlfriend? Guy: "No I don't". Female presenter: Funny that."

After the guy mentions male suicide rates, female presenter: "Is it just more that you're getting annoyed that your place at the top of the tree is being challenged?". Honestly, what a b*tch, I wonder if she would be so jovial about it if her own son had committed suicide because he was depressed about the challenges he faced.

Men's rights is a joke to a lot of women, they take humour in it and for me that is a big issue.

Okay, I usually don't wade into these kinds of discussions because it's bound to end in an argument, but this really bothered me and I sincerely hope you're joking.

If a woman raped a man (it does happen, more than the media will ever report), would it be the man's fault? Was he acting in a way that justified the woman's actions? If he 'looked like he wanted to get some', does that make it okay for the woman to take advantage of him? If he was an attractive man wearing a tight button-down or a muscle tee, would that give the woman an excuse for her behaviour?

The answer is no. It doesn't matter what gender you are, what you are wearing, what you are doing... rape is rape. This isn't even about sexism or feminism any more. This is about human rights.

Classic women, if they are abused everyone hates the man. If men are abused, women laugh at them.

Okay, I misunderstood so forgive me.

Anyhow, I agree with you that men are oppressed by society, in ways that I will never know or understand. There are expectations, not just in terms of one's behaviour and actions, but also physical attributes, that lead to the current soaring male suicide rates. But isn't it true that both genders are oppressed? All of us who are not simultaneously beautiful/handsome, smart, talented, accomplished human beings are looked down on by others because lacking in even just one of those departments makes you less worthy. This is a downside to globalisation in the digital age. We're exposed to so many people who are deemed desirable that many of lose touch with reality.

Then these people need to be educated not blamed
I'd also like to point out that suicide rate for men is higher because men are more likely to be successful in the attempts, as they tend to use more violent means like guns and lynches. Women tend to be less violent and use drugs and thus they are more likely to fail. Maybe if we look at suicide attempt statistics, we'll see more balanced figures.

True, in many cases, and lots of the problems that feminists complain about are also exacerbated by other women. That doesn't mean that those problems should be ignored, of course

I never said they should be ignored. But I felt like the thread title was missing it's other half.

Interesting. However, in the UK, guns are not commonplace.

Prof Louis Appleby, the chair of the National Suicide Prevention Advisory Group in England, said: “Men are more at risk of suicide because they are more likely to drink heavily, use self-harm methods that are more often fatal and are reluctant to seek help.

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/feb/19/number-of-suicides-uk-increases-2013-male-rate-highest-2001

Funnily enough, for me this begs the question what defines suicide. Sounds stupid. But doesn't intent matter. If you drink yourself to death by accident is that still suicide? I had no idea :s-smilie:
well, if you fail to kill yoursel you can't have really been trying, lets be honest
