For OMAM I'm thinking Slim as he's never appeared before, but it could also be Curley, Curley's wife or George as they haven't appeared in a while either. Incredibly unlikely to be Crooks as he came up last year.

Can't help with AIC as I do Animal Farm instead :u:

I'm doing Edexcel English GCSE tomorrow! I probably should be worried as I haven;t really done much to prepare, but I got 2 A*s for English in the mocks so I'm just briefly planning for each character/theme. I'm thinking Slim as he's never come up, and we are the last year to sit this exam I believe. It could also be Lennie, as he hasn't appeared since 2012.

I'm really worried that they may decide to reword the questions, or just through something at us completely unfamiliar, for example, a character like The Boss or Whit (I think I would cry)

It's always been that way so far and I think that's the way it has to be so I doubt they'd change it without telling schools etc.

who do you think will come up?

Same, have you been given any predictions about what themes/characters might come up?

Just re-read both books again

My teacher thinks that for Mockingbird it could be Dill, Calpurnia or Aunt Alexandra, for the character and Education or Justice for the theme. But that's just going off the fact that those haven't come up before, and so far there haven't been any repeats. She didn't suggest any for Animal Farm though. How about you?

Anyone doing edexcel? What ciharacters do you think may come up for OMAM And AIC

I reckon that Curley will come up because CW came up last year and he is the only main character apart from Carlson that hasn't come up yet.

And for AIC maybe Sheila because she hasn't come up since 2011 so could be possible well at least it's multiple choice.
Please mark. Much appreciated.

Arthur's Birling himself as a 'hard-headed practical man of buisness'. How does Priestley present this and other views of Arthur Birling in An Inspector Calls?

Arthur Birling is a successful business man and throughout the play Mr Birling represents his capitalist views and how he believes it's 'every man for himself'. Priestley presents Mr Birling as a symbol of capitalist. Mr Birling gives the impression that he only cares about Sheila and Gerald's marriage because it will benefit him and his business. " Sheila means a tremendous lot to me". This could be seen as Mr Birling showing affection towards his daughter. However, this could be seen as Sheila being worth a lot to him financially wise, meaning that Sheila marrying Gerlad will bring him and his business a lot of money. The word 'lot emphasises the idea more that Birling only cares about the marriage because it will give him a profit and secure future business opportunities. This represents the idea of how much Birling is a 'hard headed piratical business man of buisness' as he shows a lack of happiness for his daughter getting engaged and happier about the fact his business is going to grow.

Priestley intentions of presenting Mr Birling as a character who cares more about money than his daughter is to imply how capitalist thinks and what they are like, as Birling represents the capitalist in the play.An alternative view would be Birling shows more affection towards Gerakd than his own daughter because he brings more money to the business. "Your just the kind of son-in-law I always wanted " In my opinion, this suggest that Mr Birling is only happy with Gerald being part of the family because his parents has a higher status, with a bigger and better company (Croft limited). The word 'wanted' is Mr Birling branding him with excellence, advance in the business world. This introduces the idea that Mr Birlings idea of love is warned and he only loves people that bring him business Opportunities.

Priestley also highlights The hypocrisy of Birling capitalist stance to illustrate further on in the he fired Eva Smith because she asked for a raised "Rubbish! If you don't come down sharply on theses people they'd soon be asking for the dart". The use of the exaggeration/hyperbole just implies that Birling thinks that the lower class always ask for more and are greedy. However it's Birling that treats Sheila and Gerald's engagement like its a business deal so that his business deal grows bigger, which emphasises his greediness making him a hypocrite.

Priestley makes Mr Birling look like a hypocrite in the eye of the audience so that any other opinion that Birling has in the future in the play is devalued The writer is trying to make a point to the audience that being a capitalist means that you are selfish as its 'Everyman for himself'. Preisley is trying to promote the socialist view that we should all help each other.

Oh yeah Lennie would be a good one! Better than Slim as I know nothing about him - swear he's barely in the book at all?!
And I've done nothing for English so I'm just gonna pray the gods at Edexcel have mercy (amen)
Yup we're the last ones so they'll probably want to use Slim just to get it done
I don't think that they'd change them massively as they've developed new specs for next year anyway
Oh god if Whit, Carlson or the Boss came up I would probably just walk out! Although the Boss technically came up in language last year so hopefully they'll go for a main character this year?

Do not take my word on it, as I am dreadful at marking, but I would give it a high B/low A; though someone else may have a very different response, so don't trust me on this! Some improvements, though. Odd spelling error here and there, and you misquoted 'asking for the earth' as 'asking for the dart'. One easy way to increase the quality of an answer is never to use the word 'word'; use 'noun', 'verb', 'adjective', 'adverb' etc., as it will draw the examiners attention and makes your answer look better and yourself more knowledgeable, thereby yielding higher marks. Integrate quotes into the sentences that you a writing, rather than leaving them outside. Mr Birling says that Gerald is ' "the son in law I've always wanted." '; again, an easy way to improve the quality of answer
The thing I hate the most about English Literature is that you can revise and revise until you can recite the whole book but they can still give you a curveball that you can't dodge and so you are screwed over........
Does anyone know the grade boundaries?
how many paragraphs are you going to write for the omam essay style question part b edexcel?
I'm dreading it, I'm doing WJEC have to remember most of the quotes as we have no books in the exam. I'm also doing unseen poetry as well tomorrow i have no idea about that either! :frown: I'm gonna fail
