It surely is the pupils' fault. Any sign of even a negligible increase of difficulty in any exam paper and there is outrage on social media.

Not in those times, the palace itself was attacked in the blitz. I don't 'dote' them, I don't consider the royals or wealthy to be anyway superior, or different to anyone else, but I do recognise as people in power they have been the ones to make key decisions, such as not signing an armistice with Germany.

Depends what school you are talking about. Private schools (well some of them) and grammar schools have, in my opinion, very high levels of education. But it really depends on the teachers you have an the school you go to.

Regarding higher levels of education in the past, I would disagree, as although there may not be the depth of knowledge in some subjects (we only analyse Latin literature, not write it) then breadth is larger, as many people do at least 10 gcses and some do 4 or 5 a levels, literally unheard of 30 years ago.
