Q: Explain the role of step up and step down transformers

Step up transformers increase the voltage and lower the current in the electricity, making it easy to carry over long distances while limiting energy losses.
Step down transformers decrease the voltage and increase the current, making the electricity suitable for home-use.

What is the red-shift and how does it provide evidence for the big bang theory?

Redshift- galaxies moving away from the earth. Wavelength increases and frequency decreases.

Provides evidence as Cmbr was produced.

Can you tell me what each letter stands for in the energy names?

Step up transformers increase the voltage within the National Grid to 132,000V so less energy is lost along the cables.
The voltage is then stepped down by the step down transformers to 230V to make it safe for houses.

What is a U-Value?

I thought it was 400000V
