If you went to a private school, and didn't end up at a G5 uni...

Interesting, perhaps what we did learn were decent social skills instead

Social skills? Social skills? Come off it, most privately educated students probably can't even relate to people outside their posh little bubble.
I hate people who say this.

I am fortunate enough to be moved to private education half way through my career. Half the people only go because their parents can afford it, not because they personally want to do well. Those who do want to do well, do get into the top universities.

I personally try my best and so hope I can get into Medicine if my grades are all A's this year.

What you need to understand is that not everyone who goes to a private school wants to get into a G5 university. I want to get into Medicine in my own city here for convenience. Not because of what others think of me.

If my parents can afford it and know I worked as hard as I could, they will be proud of me and no jealous, inconsiderate objector can make me feel otherwise.

Most people go because their parents can afford it. I go because I wanted to do well and wasn't given the support in my old school

If you went to a private school like I did you'd realise that hardly any talk like Jacob Reese-Mogg or behave all high and mighty like the Royal Family (not that I have a problem with such people). And as for the whole "unable to socialise with common folk outside the posh bubble", that's nonsense. We hung around with lots of guys who were out of school and we had no problem with them nor did they with us. It appears the only people I do have problems conversing with are ones like you and the OP due to your ignorant and stereotypical attitudes.

That's okay, call me ignorant and stereotypical all you want but you can't escape the fact that most of those who attend private schools were brought up in environments and lifestyles that most people don't experience, or even know of, and going to private school has only enclosed that little bubble even further, no?

Sure you may have friends from state school, but they're probably wealthy too, given the area you may live in. (I do doubt that anyone who can afford to spend unnecessary amounts on their child's education can't afford to live in a wealthy area). Note that I said 'posh' not 'private' bubble.

Can you honestly say that you can relate to the lives of people you haven't grown up around?

I can honestly say that I can't relate to the lives of people from upper middle and upper classes. It's the way I was brought up and the people I was exposed to.

I wouldn't agree with 'most,' there are some who are very much in the sort of bubble you're talking about, but this is probably less than half, unless you're placing the likes of Harrow and Eton in the same category. In reply to your comment about how we live in wealthy areas, my dad pays for my education because he has the money, but I live... I would say full time with my mum, we aren't wealthy and we don't live in a particularly wealthy area, and I know that there are others like me (e.g. Grandparents pay.) On the other hand there are people similar to those that you describe, living on a private road which is part of another private road. So just please don't generalise to private school students in general!

You are so stereotypical though. Of course some who go/went to private schools act all high and mighty but if that's the way their parents decided to bring them up then that's their problem. However you can't generalise all private school kids to act the same way; it's like saying all notorious terrorists have been muslims so therefore all muslims are terrorists..!!

It's clear that you believe kids these days should have a taste of what it's like in 'the real world' from a very young age. Fair point but a private school offers a lot more on that subject than a state school, not to mention that an education from the former teaches you a lot more about life and social skills due to a broader range of activities and facilities. This bubble myth can be applied to any wealthy person - are you saying that they're less of an individual because of the fact that they don't know what it's like to live a life of an ordinary person? Guess we should all strive to remain average then..

Oh wow, another false accusation - I'm guessing you don't like hanging around with people wealthier than you? Is it jealousy or belligerence? No most of these lads don't come from 'well off' families but we still get on due to the interests we share and our mutual respect, yes mutual.

Bear in mind that I'm not in anyway slating state schools or average classes here, I along with many others have no problem with them yet it is ironic how many of them have a derogatory attitudes towards us. People should get on with/ respect others regardless of their social, ethical or financial backgrounds. Unlikely to happen but might as well spread the word.

what kind?
What's funny is the obsession in getting into University as the end goal.

It's not, it's merely the beginning.
Statistically private school students are 600% more likely to get into Oxbridge than state students. If 7% of the population represent the private sector, it is therefore expected for there to be a proportionate reflection. However, the reality is that the Private: State ratio is more or less 50:50 at Oxbridge. This clearly defines how successful and prepared private schools students are, being provided a plethora of opportunities to develop their skills, broaden their talents and apply their knowledge on a national/more challenging level. Besides, we (private students) leave with influential connections, links and become part of an Old Boy network.
