I've been looking for an AS Chem OCR B thread all year... this is the first I've found!!! I have a few sites that are really helpful for notes etc
http://www.4college.co.uk/as/index.php - old spec but good resource
http://www.physicsandmathstutor.com/chemistry-revision/a-level-ocr-b/ NEW SPEC !!!! some of the questions aren't great but it's a great set of exam style qs
https://chemrevise.org/ocr-revision-guides/ i think this is OCR A but if you sift through them it's a good way of checking knowledge
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mzblzr05pwoq00f/AABykDTRT_qZwjJl6kGw-YBRa/New%20Syllabus%20from%20Sept%2015/OCR%20B%20(Salters)/AS?dl=0 THE ACTUAL BEST SET OF NOTES I'VE EVER USED. IT'S FOR THE NEW SPEC AND IT'S SO GOOOOOOD
I have no predictions though... sadly :frown: we can't surely because the spec is new!!!

How are you all finding the new specification? We're all finding it really difficult to judge what the new grade boundaries are going to be like, because the new spec seems considerably harder than the latter. Are you taking the exams 'properly' in May/June? Some schools are just leaving the exams till next year as it isn't compulsory to take them now :confused:

First things first:
Right so my school is doing the exams this year as well and I also do OCR A biology. The school also offers OCR A physics.

Right now onto the real business. Anyone saying the new specifications are awful is overreacting, they really haven't changed much and all that's happened for OCR B chemistry is the shuffling of some content from A2 - AS and vice-versa. The practical endorsements are fine but it's just a shame it doesn't count towards your final grade. The big problems are the lack of content that allows for us to practice multiple choice questions and more importantly, the gaps in the endorsed books that are missed out. Such as that book with the blocks of sodium chloride on the front, makes no mention of the hydrogenation of ethene or the OCR A biology equivalent makes no mention of the Biuret test for proteins.

In summary, specifications are fine but it is the books we're meant to use that's the problem. I would also like to mention I think the second, longer answers based exam will be far nicer than the first one as it will not feature multiple choice and will probably be similar to old specification questions.

That last one is excellent!
I've added this post to the A Level directory thread, which you can find here let me know if you make or find any more exam threads and I'll add them to the directory
I've noticed that the specimen papers for this spec are so much harder than the past papers for the old spec, so I really hope the boundaries are lower...
I hate the new spec papers, hate hate hate! Oh, did I mention i hate them?
Its ridiculous, its terrible the multiple choice and the specimen papers that I rarely get a grade above D. Actually oh wait, Ive never got above a D in them.
I hate OCR slaters B new textbook. I find it hard to follow and explains things unclearly.
I use the OCR A textbook and chemguide to help me with theory lol . Its so bad. The only thing I like about them are the story lines. i mean I find chemistry as a subject interesting and Ive always had a keen interst in it. But my AS year has really put me down.
I dont get it, It really realy frustrates and demotivates me!
But when I do the previous years f332 f331 ocr AS slaters b papers I always get high Bs! When I do the AQA AS papers I almost always hit an A. ugh i dont know. im sad lol

Why??????

Wait what were the questions, the letters dont mean anything to me.
Also what did you guys get for the question for what 2 things made the ester in the multiple choice question
Did you have to leave the volume of chlorine produced calculation in standard form?

I got the larger acid anhydride ((CH3CH2CH2)2O I think) and the alcohol. I can't remember the question number or questions either :/

YES! Same
How did everyone else find the exam ??
I found it okay. Was harder than past papers, but easier than the specimen! I hated the practical questions though :frown:.

For the question about distinguishing alcohol A from its isomeric alcohols, did anyone else write about reflux with acidified potassium dichromate and it not turning green?
YES thats what i put
Did you guys get 11000 for the chlorine gas question?
Also why were the intermolecular forces different in the isopropyl

not as many contact points as it wasnt linear so instantaneous- induced dipoles could occur as much
