Sorry for the title...

I need to make a serious decision whether or not A level maths is for me. If you have done/are currently doing AS maths / A Level please tell me about what your maths GCSE grade was and how you find A level maths now. What grade are you working at/were working at in AS Maths and when did you start learning/revising the content yourself? How hard did you have to work to get to where you're at - How many hours for example every day or week?

Any advice for me (a year 11 student who has almost completed GCSEs and is around a grade C/B student)?

Many thanks.

I got an A* last year at GCSE and I've found AS maths quite challenging... but thats just me!
If you do a lot of work, AS maths won't be that bad for you... However if you're not getting an A or above at GCSE maybe AS maths isn't for you as GCSE is seriously easy (in comparison) and the AS course is quite fast paced.. you're expected to have mastered everything on the GCSE syllabus when you start

But like I said, if you put in the work AS maths won't be bad
Good luck with all of your exams!!!:gthumb::fluffy:

Without it, I wouldn't have gotten an A at A level... Just because of silly mistakes made and not realising

Hi thank you so much! I picked Maths , Chemistry & Physics for next year (3 A Levels)
Yeah that's a good idea. I might get tuition in September if possible eventhough it's costly. I'll try to find someone with good reviews though so it is worth it if I do well. Thanks again and best of luck to you!

No problem  and Yes tuition will surely help that's great news :P, You can message me any time for help if you want preferably Physics or Chemistry ahaha, Also during the summer holidays you might want to start maths early so you get a head start ? I'd recommend you go to

Youtube Chemistry:

These are all the main online resources I use. It really will help you a lot starting maths early try to master some of Core 1 before you start will benefit you.

Also for note taking don't spend too much time on them focus on practicing exam questions more by using physics and maths tutor and your boards website. Because honestly I made great notes but I don't use them as much so don't spend too long on them.

I hope this helps good luck for next year  Hopefully I can retake my AS year next year so I can finally pass Mathematics good luck

GCSE Maths: A*A*

AS Maths: C.

Units grades: AAU.

Moral of the story, do NOT take d1. Just do s1 or m1. That pile of **** brought my grade down by 2 smh.

I can't remember how many hours i put in for AS but I've probably tripled the hours for A2.

Thank you for your advice!!
I'm doing maths A level next year you see so want to know as much as possible so thanks again! :-)
Gsce Maths: A*

A level Maths : I want a A*
Im in year 12 and I do further maths
therefore I have to do c1,c2,c3,c4 and our school made us do m1 and m2.

C1 and C2 are really easy ( not much different from gsce) and people expect you to get 100 ums.
I revised 3 days before just doing lots of past papers. I think I lost 1 or 2 marks in each paper.
C3 and C4 is harder but the exam can only ask you a certain amount of questions so doing lots of past papers will help you a lot and you will can understand it easily.
If you want an A in A level maths its not that hard but in the exam you can make many little errors which can cost you.
A level maths requires a lot of memory but is manageable and easy if you put time into it. I got myself a 99p A grade revision guide/notes of ebay and it covered the entire thing and it was in note form so it was so easy to revise which made the course so easy for me. The ebay sellers name is bargaindealsdev if you interested, you can enter it into google and it will come up. They will help you if you choose maths A level as the notes are so good to revise. They also have other subjects which are good too
It looks good is a perfectly valid reason, it's not a vocation. Pick the subjects that advance your goals.
