I am a uni student now but I'll speak as though I was in Year 12/13.

1/2. I chose Maths, Chemistry, Physics and English Literature in Year 12 as I did not know exactly what I wanted to do so those options kept my options open. In Year 13 I dropped Lit and picked up Further Maths AS+A2 as I wanted to study Maths at uni, and this was the right decision.

3. Maths A-level, I enjoyed it so much :colondollar:

4. Lit, I suppose, reading and that kind of thing is fun but it is a really difficult A-level.

5. Maybe work harder for AS and go to a summer school, just to make that UCAS section not empty  but it's not a must. Also go for as many A*s as you can in GCSE - they get you places in Year 12/13 (eg some oxford maths event required 5+ A*s at GCSE).

6. Just applied to unis I liked the look of and now I'm at one of them

1. Maths, History and Sociology.

2. Did well in Maths and History GCSE and wanted to continue studying it. Was keen on what Sociology and Economics is about.

3. Doing Sociology I guess, enjoyed it more than I expected. I tend to do better in subjects I enjoy (maybe the case for everyone? :dontknow:)

4. History, I should've looked into what countries and time periods I would've been studying. Boring and nothing like GCSE.

5. I could always say "work harder", but I was happy with what I got. :h:

6. Studying something Maketing/Management related + go to a university I'd be happy to be at.

5) Take further maths
6) Get on Warwicks EY assurance program or Backdoor into economics/MMorse :colondollar::smile:

I've already done my A Levels, but I thought I'd answer anyway since I finished them fairly recently (last year)!

1) Geology, Geography and ICT (and Environmental Studies for AS)
2) I liked the sound of the Geology course, I did well in GCSE Geography and ICT, and Environmental Studies seemed to link well with Geology and Geography so I chose it, plus there weren't any other subjects which interested me.
3) Geology, it was the subject I did best in and I got an A in it overall.
4) I regretted Environmental Studies because I found it difficult and ambiguous.
5) I wouldn't have done anything differently.
6) I am going to study BSc Geoscience at Keele University this September

1) English Literature, History, Geography + Sociology at AS

2) I thought I would need 3 facilitation subjects for law at a top uni. Sociology just because it is piss easy

3)Geography because grade boundaries are super low

4) I despise English Lit. Should have carried on Sociology instead

5) Easy life of BTEC Hair and Beauty

6) Law at Durham. Turned out I could have done Sociology and still got offer so I'm sad
1) What options did you choose for your a levels?
Biology, chemistry, physics and psychology (I dropped psychology after AS).

2) What led you to make these choices?
A lot of indecisiveness. Initially, my subjects were chemistry, physics, art and maths, but then I changed to 3 sciences and maths, and finally after 2 weeks I was doing the subjects I stuck with. Basically, I hate writing (non-science) essays, maths and having to do loads of art coursework.

3) Which of the choices are you most happy with?
Chemistry. Even though it was my lowest grade at AS and lowest science grade at GCSE, I just like the subject.

4) Do you regret anything that you've chosen?
Kind of physics, when I knew I would have gotten a higher grade in psychology because psychology was my strongest subject.

5) If you could go back to the start of year 11 what would you do differently?
Nothing really, the stress of year 11 taught me a lot.

6) What are your plans for uni if any?
Neuroscience at UCL.

1) Maths, Further Maths, AS Further Additional Maths, Physics, Computing AS, Russian.
2) Maths involves less writing than other subjects.
3) All were worthwhile except maybe for computing: as I found you don't really need to have done computing to do a degree in it.
4) Not particularly.
5) Work harder in Year 12 to be in a position to do less work now.
6) Getting good at STEP 3 for my JMC offer from Imperial.

1) Biology, Chemistry, Maths, German
2) I want to study vet med at uni, so bio and chem are a must. I thought doing German would help me stand out from other applicants.
3) Biology- always been my favourite subject and I ended up amazing teachers.
4) Not really. The subjects I chose aren't easy, but I've made good friends so I don't mind.
5) I would look into other subjects, like psychology, which would help with essay skills.
6) Veterinary Medicine

4) I agree Computer Science at A level is pretty bad.

For anyone who wants to do compsci at uni: doing some programming in your spare time will probably be more useful than the A level which is apparently going to improve over the next few years but nevertheless is still lacking in many respects.

1) Maths, Physics, History, Economics.
2) I enjoyed maths though I wasn't the greatest at it. Physics was the only subject that intrigued me to learn more. I  learning more about the past ..

"maths, science and history ... unraveling the mystery that it all started with a big bang. BANG!" :colone: (Sorry I had to do it! :colondollar:)

My parents forced me to do Economics because they thought it would lead me to more money.

Spoiler

3) maths, physics, history.
4) I should have swapped economics for either FM/French. :sigh:
5) I would tell myself to not give a damn how others perform and not to hang around people that don't contribute towards any positivity in my life.
6) MSc Theoretical Physics at UCL/KCL. (+1 year abroad in US if trump doesn't become president. )
(edited 7 years ago)
1) I did Maths, Further Maths, French, English Literature and History (which I dropped after AS).
2) I knew I wanted to do a maths degree, but I didn't enjoy science (my school has a terrible science department) and I loved reading and languages. I did history as well because if I'd gone to my local grammar school I'd have been doing 5 AS subjects, but I didn't want to go so I asked my school to match it.
3) Maths has been great because a) I love the subject and b) I've had great teachers.
4) I regret keeping English over History but that's mostly because my teacher left halfway through the year...
5) Put a bit less pressure on myself and keep things in perspective
6) I'm (in theory) going to Oxford in October to study maths

This is my favourite answer because this is everything I want to do
Chemistry and biology and physics and psychology (but i wasnt sure if four science subjects is a good idea lol) and also want to do neuroscience at uni also many people say no one can do physics without maths is that really true, did you struggle in physics, if so was it because you hadnt taken maths ??

Woo!! :five:
You can definitely do physics without maths! The maths in physics isn't as complicated as the maths in maths from what I've seen. The only A-level maths that comes up is basic logarithms and natural logs, but it's mostly just knowing where the buttons are on the calculator - the rest is GCSE standard. Like most people, I struggle mainly with the wordy answers in physics but that just takes practice and exam technique.
