Need help on fractions! - Maths Edexcel

(Write this down to make it easier)

h + 7 / 3 + 2h - 1 / 2 = 5/6

Okay so i understand the first part up until i reach the "5/6" part idk what to do after that.
Firstly, don't panic. Approach it step by step - remember, if this came up on an exam, you'd still get points for your working.
I'm assuming the question is (h+7/3) +(2h-1)/2 = 5/6. I'm sorry if this is the wrong assumption.

To add fractions together, the denominator has to be equal. So make the denominator 6.

So 2(h+7)+3(2h-1)/6 = 5/6

2(h+7)+3(2h-1) = 5

Expand the brackets:

2h+14+6h-3 = 5
8h+11 = 5

Now treat it like a normal linear equation

8h = 5-11
8h = -6
h = -3/4

I believe h=-3/4 is correct.
Maybe you interpreted the question differently due to the way it was typed out?
I think the OP was asking about:
(h+7)/3 + (2h-1)/2 = 5/6 :smile:

No I read it as (h+7/3) +(2h-1)/2 = 5/6 ... well this is awkward
Actually I see where I went wrong, soz guys
Firstly multiply everything by 6 to remove the fractions, and then carry on from there like you would with a normal linear equation

So
h +7/3 + 2h - 1/2 = 5/6
(x6)
6h + 14 + 12h - 3 = 5
18h = -6
h = -1/3
