M2 collisions question

Question 2 part a. It only works when u put Vp>0 and not Vq>0. They both move in the same direction and should give the same answer, why does it not work? Help pls.

The problem is that you are looking for a restriction on e.

Vp will be positive or negative depending on e.
BUT, Vq will always be positive, so it's not going to tell you anything about e.
